Embedding YouTube videos in posts on the Bored

#1 Post by tubadave » Wed Sep 02, 2009 8:39 pm

Jeemie demanded it.

Marley doubted it.

But it is done.

It is now possible to embed YouTube videos in Bored posts.

Here's the syntax for the tags:

Code: Select all

The link to a YouTube video that you would see in the address line of your web browser should look something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hgbe-YN11o

Simply place the YouTube link between the YouTube tags, and the video will be embedded into the post.

NOTE: There are other variations of the YouTube link, including the one typically included in the Embed link on a YouTube video, which looks something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/v/4Hgbe-YN11o

This link WILL NOT WORK. The link must contain "watch?v="....i.e. youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxxxx. As I said, that's the way the link typically appears in the address line of your web browser.

And before anyone asks.....

No, there is no YouTube button yet.
Yes, I will be adding one eventually, probably next to the Spoiler buttons.

Awesome!

But I never doubted you! I just said that we shouldn't impose on you, unnecessarily.

Assuming an imposition implies doubt in my ability to complete the task quickly and easily. :p

(I'm kidding, of course.)

Actually, creating the tag was the easy part. The tricky part will be putting a YouTube button up there next to the spoiler buttons, as that has to be done separately (to a degree) for each of the different theme templates in use on the Bored. I'll take a crack at that this weekend.

You're welcome, but let's do something about the chat server going down on Thursday nights, shall we? :P

We had to break up the party early last night, and I know Fanny was looking forward to another all-nighter....

At least I got a decent night's sleep, seeing as I have to get up early on Friday for the cleaning lady.
I'm also in charge of McCall today....the flu of day victim. :( :(

Cool!

Hey, could this mean that bb BAM appearances might start getting posted on the Bored again? That would be terrific!

(I'd volunteer, but I'm a major techno-ignoramus.)

At the time I saw this thread, it was the last video I had watched on Youtube...
