Apparently, it's 1342. Who knew you would pasteurize before you ferment? Doesn't seem very hygienic to me. I put in 1324.
Spoiler
Sure, you don't want anything else fermenting (including batertia) besides the yeast you add.

On to question 2: Put these military schools in order by location, starting out West.

1. Annapolis (Navy)
2. West Point (Army)
3. Colorado Springs (Air Force)
4. New London (Coast Guard)

It's not 3214, which I put in. I heard Sad Fred again.
Yikes, that was a tough one for a Q2. I looked up the towns in Wiki and got the following lattitudes:

1. Annapolis (Navy) -- 76°30′4.17″W
2. West Point (Army) -- 74°2′34″W
3. Colorado Springs (Air Force) -- didn't bother
4. New London (Coast Guard) -- 72°05′58″W

So that would make it 3124. I would not have thought Annapolis was farther west than West Point.

My mother's first night playing TNPG:

Put these laundry cycles in order, starting with the first:

Put these authors in order of birth, starting with the earliest:
1) Norman Mailer

Put these words in order to form the title of a James Bond movie song:

3) Only
Put these dancing movies in order of release.
1) Footloose
2) Save the Last Dance
3) Saturday Night Fever
4) Singin' in the Rain
Answers + commentary
We're fairly certain he said "starting with the earliest", so we punched in the correct answer which would be:
4) Singin' in the Rain
3) Saturday Night Fever
1) Footloose
2) Save the Last Dance

We were declared wrong, even though the screen display confirms we punched in the right order. Either a) the answers were put in incorrectly or b) he may have actually said "starting with the most recent", which means the answer was actually:

2) Save the Last Dance
1) Footloose
3) Saturday Night Fever
4) Singin' in the Rain
:(, either way.

3 William Randolph Hearst
4 George Will

I thought I answered 4213 but got Sad Fred. So either I fat-fingered it or it wasn't Tom Wolfe, because from what I can tell that would be correct (Cronkite 1916, Wolfe 1931, Hearst 1863, Will 1941.

THUD! Man, it hurts when you try to jump into the pool and find it drained of water!

Q1 Arrange words to form the title of a book
1. Excellence
2. In
3. Of
4. Search
Spoiler
2-4-3-1. In Search of Excellence, only thing I worried about was the ol' fat-finger!
Q2 Arrange these diet soft drinks in order of their introduction, starting with the earliest
1. Fresca
2. Diet Coke
3. Pepsi One
4. Tab
Spoiler
4-1-2-3. Tab and Fresca were really close (1963) from what I was able to find, but I guessed correctly that Tab came first. Diet Coke and Pepsi One were easy.
Q3 Arrange these terms in the order they came into popular use, starting with the earliest
1. Rock & Roll
2. Drive-in
3. Latte
4. Microbrew
Spoiler
Apparently it was 2-1-4-3. I put 2-1-3-4, and got Sad Fred. Drive-in was 1930s, Rock & Roll 1940s, Microbrew was 1970's (I thought it was later than that), and Latte I haven't been able to pin down, but I presume it was relatively recent.
Sigh.... Well, with speakerphone on and a quiet house (I was up later than everyone else), the cordless handset wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Still, I'll do Sunday night on from work again; I like that better.

I think bazodee is correct. According to wiki, it should go

Red Badge of Courage (Civil War - 1860s)
The Age of Innocence (1870s)
The Sun also Rises (1920s)
Catcher in the Rye (I'm a bit fuzzy on this on but I think current day when it was written so 1940s)

For all those that want to feel better about their evening, try this Q1:

Arrange these phrases in order to form the title of a children's book:
1. Red Fish
2. One Fish
3. Two Fish
4. Blue Fish

I was showing my ten year old daughter the phone game, and for some reason stopped writing after One Fish when I realized I wasn't sure of the answer. My daughter told me the title, but I wasn't sure how Two and Blue fit in slots three and four. As you have undoubtedly figured out, I guessed wrong.

Regressing, but at least legitimately. Seemed a bit tough for a Q2.

Q1: Words by # of syllables, from fewest
1. Syllable (cute one, Fred)
2. Strength
3. Summer
4. Superhero
Spoiler
2314. Fortunately I remembered what the first word was, because I sure couldn't read it.
Q2. Wonders of the Modern World, from earliest
1. Panama Canal
2. Astrodome
3. Golden Gate Bridge
4. Empire State Building
Spoiler
1432. Thought the Golden Gate (1937) was older than the Empire State (1931).
I'll see if I can at least film my video tomorrow, in the midst of all the other Sunday chores. Sure hope I can learn Windows Movie Maker quickly.

Night #5

Put the following levels of the volcanic explosivity index in order of intensity, starting with the lowest:

3. severe
4. cataclysmic

WTF kind of a first question is this?!

I punched 1-3-2-4 and heard Sad Fred cackle, "Ha ha ha! Wrong again, loser! Try 'Wheel of Fortune' instead!"

Apparently, cataclysmic is less intense than supercolossal.

Friday night I was at a bachelor party and suddenly realized I hadn't tried for the day. I got to question 4 but I was a bit tipsy and have no idea where the paper I was scribbling on ended up or what the questions were.

Saturday night:

Q1. Put the following stages in human development in order, starting with the earliest:
1. embryo
2. infant
3. adult
4. adolescent
Spoiler
1-2-4-3
Q2. Put the following sections of a book published in the United States in order, starting with the front:
1. title page
2. front cover
3. foreward
4. back cover
Spoiler
2-1-3-4
Q3. Put the following poets in chronological order of their births, starting with the earliest:
1. Sappho
2. John Milton
3. Maya Angelou (this made me feel lucky - I had a category about her on Jeopardy)
4. Emily Dickinson
Spoiler
1-2-4-3, again
Q4. Put the following cities in order by their distance from Beijing, starting with the closest:
1. Tokyo
2. Los Angeles
3. Moscow
4. Washington, DC
Spoiler
1-3-2-4
Q5. Put the following states in order by the dates of their statehood, starting with the earliest:
1. Arizona
2. Ohio
3. Delaware
4. Kansas
Spoiler
3-2-4-1
So I think I'm in the pool (what the hell does OTC stand for anyway), but see the thread I created for more (possibly shitty) details. I selected 7/31 as my taping date. Maybe I can meet BBs while I'm there if I get called, but I grew up in Northern NJ, which means I have a lot of family and friends there, so my free time is usually overscheduled with minimal input from me.

We could really use it, though. Margy was laid off back in November, and the more time she spends home with Frankie, the less she wants to ever go back to work, I have a nonprofit job that I love to death but which doesn't pay that well, Chicago ain't that cheap, and Frankie won't be an only child come February.

Questions are paraphrased as well as memory and chicken scratches allow.

Friday night (7/10/09):

Q1. Put the following words in order to form the name of a place:
1. Dakota
2. South
3. City
4. Rapid
Spoiler
4-3-2-1
Q2. Put the following literary detectives in the order of their first appearance in print, starting with the earliest:
1. Kinsey Millhone (looked up spelling of last name later)
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. Sam Spade
4. Javert
Spoiler
4-2-3-1 I was hesitant punching this in, and I think I stutter-punched #3 twice
