I didn't think you were a doctor after throwing around medical terms like "cooties".I'm no doctor, but I think that since the blister is still growing you might be better off washing the area with an antibacterial soap, applying at least some Neosporin instead of the aloe and E for now, and cover it loosely with a gauze wrapping to keep out any cooties until you can get the SSD cream. Might even be worth a trip to the local Urgent Care just so you don't have to deal with a potential infection during your trip. Have fun! Throw a buck on #22 on the roulette table for me.

A walk in clinic, for a burn? Once your blisters are fully formed, burn a needle and drain them. I'm sure I'll stop thinking about it when I get out of here. It's just because I'm trapped at my desk and staring at it that it's an issue right now. Well no I guess it's an issue but I'm fixated on it more than I need to be.Sisyphean Fan wrote:Butch up!

Something about the fresh gel from the plant works so much better than the lotion or gel you buy, even if it is 100%.
There was also a yellow ointment that I used to use that was great. I was called Foille or Faille, or something like that. I don't know if they even make it anymore. Now days I just use hydrocortisone cream. Except when I just butch up and carry on.

Fanny, I worked at a Dunkin Donuts too! It was my first job at 15 or so. Back then, we had to plop the fresh donuts into vats of frosting, pick them up, wipe around the edges with our finger, and set them on the tray. No gloves. Can you imagine? Of course, we'd lick our fingers constantly. How disgusting. It took me YEARS to be able to look at a Donut again.Sisyphean Fan wrote:Butch up!

I also have live aloe in the backyard. Do you find that the real stuff stinks to high heaven? Mine does for some reason.

That's how we did it when I was there (except for the licking the fingers part). We thinned the frosting bowls with hot coffee (except for strawberry was hot water). So, that's the secret ingredient in Dunkin Donuts chocolate and maple frosting.....coffee!Second Chance wrote:Fanny, I worked at a Dunkin Donuts too! It was my first job at 15 or so. Find some Foille ointment (see my previous post). They surely should have it in a drugstore near you. I just haven't had to use it in years because I have a tube from about 1872 that isn't empty yet, but apparently it's still a viable product.sunflower wrote:I'm sure I'll stop thinking about it when I get out of here. Second degree burn are serious and prone to infection, you shouldn't pop the blisters on purpose; they're not like friction blisters. And if they do pop, you should have that cream handy.Sisyphean Fan wrote:A walk in clinic, for a burn? Once your blisters are fully formed, burn a needle and drain them. Why see the doctor if on the face or hand? - I'm not sure, maybe the reason you suggested or because those areas are more exposed to dirt or even the dreaded cooty (AND YES, I BELIEVE THAT IS A REAL MEDICAL TERM, DERIVED FROM THE GREEK ROOT COOTIUS OBNOXIOCUS!), but that's what several websites said. Maybe I'm overreacting, but since you're about to travel...

Results: 1st degree burn
Why you should get hand burns checked (at least according to the doctor): hands don't have a lot of fat so it's easy to do damage to the underlying ligaments and you should get checked to ensure that's not the case (it wasn't with me, ligaments ok).
Prescription: That silver stuff that was mentioned and Darvocet (??) - really, for a minor hand burn?? How much can I get on the street.........
Outlook: Good, let's hope my unlucky streak comes to and end. Soon, really.

I'm glad you had it checked out. I'm in the group that puts neosporin on just about everything.
When Kitty had an infected paw a few weeks back, it healed that up in no time.
The vitamin E will help once it starts healing and will lessen the scar a bit...maybe. Vitamin E oil
is cheap....CVS has it here and I know Mecca does. I'm gonna look for that miracle cream Fan told
us about. Can't hurt to have some around the house.

Maybe because the blisters weren't actually oozing or open? He made it sound like it was the lesser degree because everything was still in one piece, even if swollen and blistered.Estonut wrote:Huh.sunflower wrote:Results: 1st degree burn
