Nashville No1 OKC 3 and NYC 50

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Via the "America's Manliest Cities" study, COMBOS(R) - the hearty, pretzel and cracker snack made with real cheese - examines what makes a city manly and then ranks 50 major metropolitan areas using criteria such as number of professional major league sports teams, popularity of tools and hardware and frequency of monster truck rallies. Cities also lose ranking points for emasculating characteristics like the abundance of home furnishing stores, high minivan sales and subscription rates to beauty magazines.

They must have one more monster truck rally than we do. That, and an NFL team.

I checked the list again.......I rechecked it. Omaha must have a few too many minivans and furniture stores.

I notice that Charlotte beat out OKC for the #2 spot. Obviously, the last-minute excitement of having Bob J move to Charlotte made a difference to the judges.

OKC men claim an exceptionally high consumption rate for salty snacks. I think that means that the city's testosterone levels will remain high until all the guys start keeling over from heart attacks at age 38.

If they had included Omaha in the survey of 50 cities, clearly we would have been #1.

Maybe they retired us as the Ultimate #1. :)

New York City ranks 50th out of 50 in the study due to low scores in manly indicators such as "fishing," "home improvement" and "drag racing."

They didn't study the right kind of drag racing.

Charlotte is number 2? We have sports teams - but having been to Browns, Steelers and Panthers games, manly would not be a term I use to describe the the Panthers fans - The female fans in Pittsburgh are manlier than most Panthers fans.

Isn't Bob J moving to Columbia, SC - that's about 90 miles south of this bastian of manliness.

Oops. My mistake, and my apologies to the residents of both cities and both states. Alas, I've managed to reach the Carolinas only once, long ago, and I sometimes get all the C cities confused.

I can't figure out how OKC made it to #3, given the lack of professional teams (the Thunder being the only one); I guess the consumption of salty snacks must have done the trick.
