We are Going to Be Snowbirds

#1 Post by peacock2121 » Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:32 am

No kidding.

Sting and I are purchasing a house in my parents community. We will have an offer accepted by the end of March.

We will live there from November 15 - April 1 every year until we no longer have a parent in Florida. We will then sell it and figure out where we want to retire.

We will not be cold ever again!

after this year, that is.

I have to wait 14 more years to do that. Man, do I envy you!
I don't have to listen to you! :P

Good on ya Pea. Like others, I am envious.

I predict your golf game will improve.

I wonder if this is where Phil Mickelson lives?

Since you need to spend a lot of time down there already, having your own place in Florida will be a good thing. Congrats!

Not so sure about that. I have some wrist issues that have been preventing me from doing push-ups and hitting a golf ball. I can now lift a stack of plates above my shoulders, which my wrists would not let me do 6 months ago. Maybe they will keep improving.

Baby Boy is a California guy.

Although we are plotting how we can see some tournaments while we are living down there.

It is better for Sting and I as well. He has spent time at his mom's, and me at my folks. This way, we will be together and he can travel down 75 and be at his mom's in 90 minutes. He will be doing that once a week and stay over one night.

My dad told me the other day "I am looking forward to you coming, I need some straightening out." I asked what he meant and he said he was all crooked and he knew I would fix him.

I am really fortunate that my life allows me to do this.

Ahhhh...my dream. Between the family issues down there and the weather issues up here, it certainly seems like the right move for you guys. I know I am completely sick and tired of being cold all the time.

Congratulations!

Everybody who lives in Colorado in a snowy winter probably thinks about snowbirding.

Maybe someday . . .

My folks are in Sun City Center (30 miles south of Tampa) and Sting's mom is in Punta Gorda. I am thinking Sarasota is halfway between the two.

We will be buying in Sun City Center - Kings Point to be exact. I will be living in a retirement community for 5+ months out of the year!

The wind is howling and the temperature is below freezing even without the wind. And I'm far south of you.

I'm guessing you wish you had already headed south...

I guess no one snowbirds in southern California because of all the rain we get. Of course I'm at another golf tournament right now and it's overcast. The bad news is that if the rain starts we can't use the golf carts on the course. I might have to actually walk.

But are you getting snow?

And has Stephen called home from Hawaii, saying how sorry he is that he's missing it? :P

We have a dusting on the deck. It's still coming down but blowing so hard it has trouble landing. Schools were delayed two hours to keep the buses off the roads during heavy traffic times more than anything.

They hit Hawaii today. They called on the road to Yosemite to see some real live snow up close and personal...
Don't laugh--you're next!

I know exactly one couple snowbirding between Colorado and SoCal. I'm sure there are more, I just know of the one. Most Coloradans snowbird in AZ.

You bet I do.

It is swirling outside.

I have to be out late tonight as well. It will not be snowing then, but I understand it will be blowing like crazy.

It is way too expensive to snowbird in southern California. And, too much traffic.

I'd love to be able to live in Hawaii, because it's expensive and inaccessible. But if I were rich enough to live there I'd be rich enough to provide airfare to all the in-laws.

Dammit.

Agree -- the only way it's feasible for this couple is that they kept their California property when they decided to live here in the summer.

Well that's the trick, to be just wealthy enough to buy property in Hawai'i.....
