Did I miss the thread re VP's "# to the website?"
On CBS' Morning Show yesterday, VP Biden was asked about his role as a watchdog for the spending in the recent Stimulus Bill. He admitted he'd forgotten and looked off-screen, asking his staff, "What's the number to that website?"
He then went on to give the correct web address.
It actually was charming and a mere slip of the tongue, but the same public faux pas would have generated a page and half here if it had been the previous administration.
Curious that...

You didn't miss the thread; you just started it.
I had heard nothing of this incident, myself. So the vice president used the term "number" instead of "URL"? Clearly, this egregious mistake calls for an ongoing harangue.
Carry on.

His point was that if W. had said exactly the same thing, many here would have lampooned him as an idiot.MarleysGh0st wrote:You didn't miss the thread; you just started it.

Because of X, Y and Z, people should be rioting in the streets. That we are not doing so is a dreadful moral failure.
How about if those who wish to criticize or lampoon simply do so, and stop complaining that others aren't joining in?

Why did we have so many threads and so much glee when the previous Administration made minor goofs like this - ones that truly didn't affect anyone or anything?
Against policy or major decisions? Absolutely, our right and duty as citizens to discuss and dissent, if need be.
But the piling on during Bush's time over absolutely any and everything was just sickening.
No turn about being fair play?

So are you still complaining that some people were unfair to the Bush administration or complaining that these same people are not being equally unfair to the Obama administration?Flybrick wrote:No turn about being fair play?
And, how about naming names? What specific BBs do you want to join in with you?
SSS, for one, seems to be just as unhappy with this administration as with the last one.

Re: Did I miss the thread re VP's "# to the website?"
Marley, I'm not going to call out anyone.
My point is to point out the hypocrisy. I would have not had many, many, many of the insults slung at the previous Administration as they were demeaning to the Office, something that does us as Americans no good. I would not have them slung at the current Administration, but as I'm only one man, it is not unreasonable to wonder why those so quick to ridicule the past incumbent and staff, are not so fast now?
And especially those of the major broadcast networks and print outlets. I would further say that my opening post was more directed at those outlets than any posters here, but if the thread fits individuals, that's ok as well.
Futile? Probably.
Fun? Definitely.
If you didn't notice, I don't know if you did or did not, I did not insult Vice-President Biden. It was a simple, human mistake. I even said it's endearing. But that same outlook was seldom, if ever, given to the Bush Administration.

Fine, comment on them - why bring up that no liberals are doing so and that they did so with Bush?Flybrick wrote:And in the present are some major gaffes, stumbles, and buffoonery that should be worth commenting upon.peacock2121 wrote:I am intrigued by your compulsion to post it and other things comparing Obama and Bush.

Yes, our culture has become very polarized. One side attacks the other unfairly and the other side responds in kind. One does not ordinarily expect one side to attack itself unfairly.
Go ahead and point out every instance of unfair attacks, as they happen. Just stop complaining that unnamed others aren't joining in.
I noticed the phrasing. It's not hypocrisy, it would be either decorum or cowardice, depending on one's viewpoint.MarleysGh0st wrote: But if you don't name names, then your cry against hypocrisy is chasing after phantoms. Who is being the hypocrite?

I wasn't accusing you of being a hypocrite there. I was simply repeating, with different wording, the request to name names.Flybrick wrote:It's not hypocrisy, it would be either decorum or cowardice, depending on one's viewpoint.MarleysGh0st wrote: But if you don't name names, then your cry against hypocrisy is chasing after phantoms. Does it matter who is being hypocritical? Will we have an administrator tag their name with this label? Do we need to dig more ditches between the philosophical divides?
Can't we all just get along?
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

Re: Did I miss the thread re VP's "# to the website?"
Naming names gives the accused a chance to defend themselves, which a generic charge of "everyone is being unfair" does not. Unless everyone is expected to join in the thread to say "I'm not being unfair".Rexer25 wrote:Does it matter who is being hypocritical? Will we have an administrator tag their name with this label? I'm willing to do so. We can conduct our political discussions civilly, from this point forward, and call out those who act uncivilly, from this point forward.Rexer25 wrote:Can't we all just get along?

wow
you make up an assertion to make a point about something that dint happen relating to an event that few saw, on a game show messgage board, on which you think that the criticisms of quite possibly the most incompetent president in our history, during a worldwide global financial pandemic no less, was too harsh.
that is strong
solid thinking

I too became annoyed with the constant nitpicking over his smalll gaffes like the iraq war,2 recessions, failure to capture bin laden after ignoring the warnings of the 9/11 attack
he is only human
