Psychic Mediums

#1 Post by sunflower » Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:34 pm

No, this is not about a spam email I got!

I am going to some "seminar" given by a psychic medium tonight. She often does readings on a local radio station and often gets people in tears over messages from their deceased family members. I usually do not believe this stuff but she gets names and other things dead on.

I am going because a friend bought tickets and had someone cancel, so I am going for free. I figure why not, I'll keep an open mind...supposedly we will learn techniques to be more receptive to these messages ourselves.

Just wondering if anyone really believes in this stuff or has any good stories to share? I will be spending the evening trying to figure out if selected people are plants or not!!!

I like the idea that there are energies that are only accessible to non-rational parts of our minds.

It fits with the bees drawing dance-maps, and with kitties finding their way thousands of miles to the old or new home, because they are still connected to the earth's gravitional field in a way that we mostly are not.

But it is not provable, so it just depends on how you feel about rationality/reason and faith. I don't see why believing in ghosts of this sort would be much different from believing in angels or deities. They are not provable but we like the idea, whether on its own merits or to explain things we don't understand. So have fun with it.

The main thing is, we don't KNOW. So we should relax about all of it.

You might want to read about cold reading and hot reading before you go.

I'm more of a psychic extra-large myself.

Here's some advice.... when you see her, keep your hand tightly clasped around you wallet or purse.

Lol...

At least it's paid for and hopefully no one is asking for money. I just need to figure out how she can do what she does on the air (she literally will guess names, and some of them are pretty obscure)...she'll just say I see a grandfather figure, his name is Clyde...and the caller will be like omg yes my grandfather's name is Clyde! So unless they're fake callers, how the french is she doing that?

These people, the fake ones that is, have confederates doing research ahead of time on the people in the audience. That is, in a live audience.

If radio callers are involved, you need look no further than "its all been set up ahead of time"; the caller themself is a confederate.

Also, I've read that fake psychics will say stuff like "you have a little scar under your lip; you got it as a young child" & the person in the xth row will be very impressed, either that the psychic is really pyschic, or that Lasiks works that well. In reality, it turns out, many people have little scars under their lips that they got as young children, & probably don't even remember getting, but can locate today.

(I have one. Other family members have them. None can remember getting them. We were going on "maybe its hereditary". Before I read how common this was, that is.)

I should note, I am also getting bribed with a trip to a restaurant that serves fried pickles, which I had once before and loved, and have never found at another restaurant around here. So I am going mostly for the pickles.

Fried pickles are the real thing!

But don't be taken in by the fake.

We have a restaurant in Charlotte that makes awesome fried pickles, so score an extra point on your list of cities...

I thought they would be pickle spears but they are chips, and the batter is total yum. Dunk them in ranch.

It is called The Penguin, and is in a way cool neighborhood.

How about using a call screener with Caller ID and an open Google window? There are lots of tricks that are amazing if you don't know how they're being done, but painfully obvious if you do.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

--squirrelmama (10/3/07)

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

All we needed to know about psychics, we should have learned when the Psychic Friends Network went bankrupt.

I never thought I'd feel this way

And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe I love you
And if I should ever go away

Well then close your eyes and try
To feel the way we do today
And then if you can remember:

Keep smiling
Keep shining

Knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well you came and opened me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

Oh
And then for the times when we're apart
Well then close your eyes
And know these words are coming from my heart
And then if you can remember...

Keep smiling
Keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Keep smiling
Keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Keep smiling
Keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Highlight of the night: fried pickles

Low point of the night: not being able to sleep because the guy sitting next to me was snoring so loud that it kept me up

It was really hot in the room, and she was able to provide really specific information to the people she chose. A whole two of them, in 2.5 hours! Yeah...I believe that was random!

But....the pickles made it all worth it, they really did. :)

I also have to say, at the risk of sounding mean, that the psychic's "guides" as she called them obviously did not help her out when she was in the dressing room, putting on clothes that were at least two sizes too small. We got to learn first hand about the lesser known 8th chakra, the muffin top chakra.

(Do you think she knows I said that? Lol)
