Re: Game #122 -- Homage to Mutt and Jeff
And I messed up
33. EMMA WILLARD + 7. GARY OLDMAN = EMMA GOLDMAN (Anarchy)
so all that's left are someone named Taylor and someone named B. Radford for numbers 16 and 89.

I found the mustachioed actor for number 89: Basil Radford, from The Lady Vanishes. I wish I could tell you who his frequent co-star was.

Thanks. I had a lot of fun putting this one together ... and it took a looooong time.silverscreenselect wrote:Good puzzle Frank.... I can see how you wound up with some of these obscure people....
Yeah, you'd think there'd be a more prominent B. Owen than the Lieutenant Governor of Washington. Clive Owen and Robert Owen were my alternative Owenses, but any Cowens or Rowens I found were really obscure.
Johnny Olson almost made it, paired with Al Sharpton, but I already had two Olsons; three might have given the whole thing away.
Benjamin Rush almost made the puzzle, but Charles Brush would have put another Charles into the mix, and the Associated Words for him overlapped the ones for Elmer Sperry.
Chuck Reed, mayor of San Jose, also almost made the cut, matched with the god Apollo. But again, I thought this might have been a giveaway. Unfortunately, Apolo Ohno spells his first name the wrong way.

I would think there would be a C. Owens somewhere who could link to Dave Cowens....franktangredi wrote:this one together ... and it took a looooong time.

Of course, these things are always easier when you look at them after the fact.... speaking with regret after I used Ted Turner in the last puzzle (as well as some other obscure matchups to get to 47).

Another great puzzle, Frank!
I still have about 15 more clues to write for my own Tangredi puzzle. I've been busy with a lot of other things lately. Plus, I'm gonna be out of town this weekend. So I'm hoping to have my puzzle ready for playing by Monday.

I could have one ready for tomorrow. It's movie quotes, so I just need to look up some more on IMDB. When is Melly going to be back in action?

Actually, it is Roy Williams, who is coaching his 21st season this year.NellyLunatic1980 wrote:I finally got #58. It's BO RYAN of Wisconsin.
Williams .811 (584-136)
Ryan .769 (567-170)
[In addition, Ryan only in in his 19th season coaching in the NCAA (D-I and D-III), as his first six years were coaching at the NAIA level, before Wisconsin-Platteville jumped to Division III.)

You may be right, but you'd have a hard time finding a famous person named William Jennings Rwilliams.Appa23 wrote:Actually, it is Roy Williams, who is coaching his 21st season this year.NellyLunatic1980 wrote:I finally got #58. It's BO RYAN of Wisconsin.

I was using information I got directly from more than one online source. I can't guarantee that it was correct, obviously.silverscreenselect wrote:You may be right, but you'd have a hard time finding a famous person named William Jennings Rwilliams.Appa23 wrote:Actually, it is Roy Williams, who is coaching his 21st season this year.NellyLunatic1980 wrote:I finally got #58. It was right until a year ago. Then, Williams passed the 20 year plateau at the end of last season.franktangredi wrote:I was using information I got directly from more than one online source. For example, to verify my memory that Williams was the actual answer, I checked Ryan's Wikipedia page. It states the erroneous answer that Ryan has the highest winning percentage for those with 20years coaching at the start of the article, and then states correctly that Ryan is second to Williams at the end of the article, in the Trivia section.
I just was looking at this thread for the first time today, wonde3ring if there were any unanswered questions, and I spotted this one.

These are always slippery. Bobby Bowden's win totals include Howard College, but that's okay because your mamma and diddy would like him if they could meet.
