Thanks. I had a lot of fun putting this one together ... and it took a looooong time.

Yeah, you'd think there'd be a more prominent B. Owen than the Lieutenant Governor of Washington. Clive Owen and Robert Owen were my alternative Owenses, but any Cowens or Rowens I found were really obscure.

Johnny Olson almost made it, paired with Al Sharpton, but I already had two Olsons; three might have given the whole thing away.

Benjamin Rush almost made the puzzle, but Charles Brush would have put another Charles into the mix, and the Associated Words for him overlapped the ones for Elmer Sperry.

Chuck Reed, mayor of San Jose, also almost made the cut, matched with the god Apollo. But again, I thought this might have been a giveaway. Unfortunately, Apolo Ohno spells his first name the wrong way.

Of course, these things are always easier when you look at them after the fact.... speaking with regret after I used Ted Turner in the last puzzle (as well as some other obscure matchups to get to 47).

I was using information I got directly from more than one online source. I can't guarantee that it was correct, obviously.

It was right until a year ago. Then, Williams passed the 20 year plateau at the end of last season.

For example, to verify my memory that Williams was the actual answer, I checked Ryan's Wikipedia page. It states the erroneous answer that Ryan has the highest winning percentage for those with 20years coaching at the start of the article, and then states correctly that Ryan is second to Williams at the end of the article, in the Trivia section.
