SyndieBAM is back and so are upcoming contestant articles!
Sean Sich enters the Hot Seat on Thursday. This article says he had been in the contestant pool since the summer of 2006.

It's possible some of those newbies did tape this season and simply haven't been back to the Bored to tell us about it.

Today's show, since I had the chance to watch it live for a change:
Spoiler
The player is doing all right, although she has a tendency to natter on a bit and then wait for the host to ask if her answer is final. Lots of time wasted on the clock. Her hook is that she started her own charity, which played right into their add-on interview sheet about favorite charities with a personal involvement. Good PAF work.
The Expert is that guy who read the encyclopedia and was mediocre on 'BAM. He hasn't improved any. He got lucky with this one.
Cat Deeley (sp?) is doing her best to be more British version and drawing out telling the contestant if they're right or not. I can deal with it, but it makes for a slower show, which TPTB probably like. One player, eleven questions. I can easily see her replacing Meredith when the time comes, though.

By coincidence, just last week, someone posted on the Television Without Pity board about getting a Happy Card in 2007 and still waiting for The Call. So that's at least one.

I think the guest host (whom I'd never heard of before) did a decent job with the mechanics of the show and actually saved the contestant from letting the clock run out a few times. On the other hand, she read the four answer choices very slowly, which contributed to the time crunch. She's easy on the eyes, but I found her voice a bit problematic. Overall, it's more grating than Meredith's smooth and calm delivery, but maybe I could get used to that. I think a lot of viewers and contestants may have trouble understanding her, due to her strong accent. I don't know what part of England she is from, but she sounded quite different from most British speakers I've heard. She says "okay" a lot, but the way she says it sounds like "A-K." There was a question today that involved the word "comrade," which she pronounced "com - raid." Maybe having an unusual speaking voice helps her stand out from the crowd and works to her advantage, but I think she would be an odd choice if they ever decide to replace Meredith.peacock2121 wrote:gsabc wrote:Today's show, since I had the chance to watch it live for a change:Spoiler

I suspect she may have been asked by TPTB to slow down her delivery to make her more understandable to the American viewing audience.

Cat Deeley was born near Birmingham, but her accent is more London. It's not BBC received pronunciation news presenter London, but more in line with how average 20-30 somethings speak (Cat is 32-33).TheConfessor wrote:I think the guest host (whom I'd never heard of before) did a decent job with the mechanics of the show and actually saved the contestant from letting the clock run out a few times. I don't find her accent too particularly strong, but then again I'm used to British accents. Based on the one show I've seen so far, she's definitely more Chris Tarrant (UK Millionaire host) than Regis or Meredith, which I kind of like. The problem is (as you've noted) the clock works against a relaxed delivery of the question. I bet she'll adjust as the week progresses. I like what I've seen so far - she's genuinely interested in the contestant, and she's a bit in awe of sitting in the host's chair. Her respect for the show and format comes across very clearly to me.
I think any rumour of her replacing Meredith is bunk though. Meredith's under contract for another two seasons (after this one), and she's shown no sign of wanting to leave. I'm more willing to believe the UK Mirror story suggesting this was created by friends or publicists for Cat trying to increase her value in the television presenter marketplace.

Re: SyndieBAM is back and so are upcoming contestant articles!
Meredith's contract extension depends on two things: her own stamina and the health of the husband. The latter is unknowable. She has commented on the former, saying that she loves doing the show but cries when she thinks of her schedule during taping season.15QuestionsAway wrote:I think any rumour of her replacing Meredith is bunk though. Another obvious variable is the continued health of the ratings. So far, so good, but who knows what will be after two more seasons?

I'll give Cat this much: she remembers to say the entire phrase, "Is that your final answer?"
As already stated, her reading of the answers is clear and distinctive, but counterproductive with the current rules for TDC.
And her introduction was a little too full of herself. "I love my life!" That's fine, but who are you and what are you doing there?
If Meredith were to decline to renew her contract, I'd still prefer that TPTB rescue any one of the former Play It! hosts from hosting the Disney Jungle Cruise, or whatever they're doing now, than to bring in any of the guests hosts we've seen.

As far as accomplishments go, she did mention the only other one that most people might know - she's the "Ryan Seacrest" of "So You Think You Can Dance?", the FOX network's dance competition show.MarleysGh0st wrote:I'll give Cat this much: she remembers to say the entire phrase, "Is that your final answer?"![]()

Yes, she did fit that in and I'm sure she has her fans from that. That's an interesting take. I took it as more "I'm amazingly fortunate to be hosting this great show. How cool is this?".MarleysGh0st wrote:...And her introduction was a little too full of herself. "I love my life!" That's fine, but who are you and what are you doing there?
No criticism of any kind is implied here. It just didn't occur to me before you mentioned it that what Cat said could be seen that way.

I know I'm a bit late on this, but I doubt I'm in the pool. I got the postcard for Wedding Week, but never for the regular show - and while I know they say you're in the pool regardless, they didn't really ask me and my fiance anything about our individual selves
