Hooking up my electronics
I need to hook up my LCD TV with a VCR and/or DVD.
Do I need a 3-color cable hookup for this? The 2-color (red/white) cable isnt doing the trick.
I see them on Amazon for real cheap (less than $10 each).
Do you think it's a good idea to buy them (if indeed thats what I need) online?
Thanks

You do need the fancy cable (if you don't want colors that make you feel like you're in Disneyland) not included with the TV, or hardly ever, which is a crime.
I forget the fancy-cable name; "S" cable or something like that.
I dunno which is a good one; my sister bought hers at a discount, but it wasn't discounted down to $10.00!

Your red and white cable is an audio cable only.moonie wrote:I need to hook up my LCD TV with a VCR and/or DVD.

You have three choices for a video cable, from lowest to highest quality: a standard (yellow) video cable, which is a rounded RCA cable like the red/white audio cable; an S-video cable (which has a bunch of little points on the end); or a component video cable (which is actually three separate rounded RCA video cables, red, green and blue).
The standard video cable is okay for a VCR since the resolution on video tape is very low (most VCRs don't have an S-video output anyway). However for your DVD, you should at least get an S-video cable, and for a high-def LCD TV, I'd go with the component video cables which will give you the sharpest picture possible. If your DVD player is upconverting, I'd invest in an HDMI cable, which will get you an even sharper picture.

Yes, but keep in mind that cable is video only. You will still need the audio red/white cables or some other audio connection to get sound. Each one of those three cables carries one single color (Red, green, or blue), and by running the signal from your DVD player to the TV via separate cables, it eliminates bleeding.moonie wrote:http://www.amazon.com/Broadband-Product ... 606&sr=1-6

For audio, if you have a receiver, get a digital coaxial cable or a digital optical cable and hook your DVD to the receiver (depending on your DVD and receiver audio outputs/inputs).silverscreenselect wrote:Yes, but keep in mind that cable is video only. That is- if you want true digital surround sound.

One additional comment which I don't think I have seen
Does your TV signal go through a High Def DVR or a High Def box? It should to get the maximum enjoyment of your HD signal on your HD TV.
Your LCD TV should have several inputs newer ones have a lot of choices from HDMI best to S Video to RWY. To continue your optimum HD TV viewing you should not run your signal through the DVR or VCR since this would greatly downgrade your picture/sound. If you use a VCR or DVD recorder to record programs get a splitter to have a direct tv input

You do not need a splitter anymore, for the most part.
