Doubt, Revolutionary Road or Slumdog?

#1 Post by ToLiveIsToFly » Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:49 am

Best friend's and my spouse are both out of town. We're going to the movies on a man-date. Those are our 3 best choices. Doubt starts 35 minutes earlier, which as we are both middle-aged men, is a factor in its favor. Both of us are a little bit in love with Kate Winslet.

Recommendations?

From what I have read of all of them, you will leave with the best feeling from SM.

Is she naked in Revolutionary Road?

That ought to settle it...

I hear she is. And I agree with your sentiment. Though it should be said that I like her with her clothes ON too. In fact, my favorite movie of hers is the only one I can name off the top of my head where she's not naked at all.

Please tell me you're not talking about Holiday.

My wife made me watch that.

Of course I'm going to see Slumdog. But I'll probably rent it. I don't think Jeff is nearly as enthusiastic about it as I am.

What the hell is Holiday? I'm talking about the brain movie with Bilbo and Spiderman's girlfriend and that guy I usually automatically don't see a movie if he's in it...

Oh...THAT one....Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! (That wasn't Bilbo, BTW- but Frodo. And Jim Carrey, I'm guessing, is the guy whose movies you usually don't go to see).

Yes- she was not naked in that one.

Holiday was a chick's flick extrodanaire that she starred in last year, I believe.

It had the audactity to not have either her OR Cameron Diaz naked in it (AND, it cast Jack Black as a romantic character, which was worse).

Kate is not naked in Revolutionary Road. The girl who plays the secretary that Leonardo Di Caprio has an afternoon rendezvous with is topless for about one second. The film is rated R more for profanity than anything else.

Kate is naked in The Reader .... a lot. That may explain which film she got nominated for.

But it had Eli Wallach in it (not naked) which in a way connects it to classic Hollywood (The Magnificent Seven, The Misfits, etc.)...

The way the host intones and pronounces "millionaire" makes Slumdog the obvious choice. However, Winslet worship: +1.

Because she's too busy talking to the contestants and the experts.

I saw this movie this weekend. I really liked the movie, but Kate's boobs, if they were hers, were kinda funky looking. Specially the bathtub scene. Oh, overall I liked seeing Kate naked. :D

Also saw Gran Torino and also liked it. I do not feel that the movie was snubbed by the Oscars. Toa, or Toad or whatever his name was, was a pretty weak actor. They could have done a whole lot better.

Take your wife to Slumdog.

Take your man friend to Revolutionary Road.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

I don't think REVOLUTIONARY ROAD is what you think it is. It's a Leo DiCaprio/Kate Winslet melodrama, not a shoot-'em-up. The men friends would be likely bored. Take the men friends to see DARK KNIGHT in IMAX instead.

We saw The Wrestler over the weekend. Marisa Tomei gets naked ... a lot. She keeps in good shape.

Very well made movie, but very depressing. Mickey Rourke deserves the Oscar. It's the best job of physical acting I've seen in a long time (there isn't that much dialogue in the film).

Rourke is apparently turning his career around, too. He'll be playing the villain in the next Iron Man movie due out summer of 2010.

Thanks all. We saw slumdog. It was very good. We had already seen the dark knight in imax together. Mrs Fly and I don't go to the movies together. That requires a babysitter and if we have a sitter, we have better things to do. Plus she hates the noise and the crowds etc.

Hence-the kids-

It's a vicous circle-kids require babysitter-hence the rare opportunity to do stuff-which usually leads to BETTER THINGS  -Hence, sometimes more kids-hence-required babysitter etc.

FTR-I speak as one who as often said-we don't want to waste a babysitter on the movies.
