speaking of ice
can fresh water ice be a variety of temperatures?
I dont torture mallards all the time, but when I do, I prefer waterboarding.

Re: speaking of ice
Sure put ice in the deep freeze and it will be colder than in the regular freezer.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Re: speaking of ice
There is also the pressure component.
Increasing the pressure on the water will mean that the water has to get colder before it will freeze.
That's not going to happen at typical atmospheric pressure changes, though. A low pressure system coming through will not mean that ice will form more easily. The rate of change for the freezing point of water is very low.

Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

carl is too smart to get frozen to the ice
i am sure there is a reason for his ice layin
i intuit he is warmer that way

His feathers protect his body from the cold better than his feet are protected by whatever is on the bottom of his feet.

Invite him inside where it is warm.

Re: speaking of ice
Standing might be colder than lying on the ice since the air temperature is probably colder than the ice right now. Lying down would expose less body to the air. Especially those body parts not covered by feathers.
Eventually the ice will cool down into equilibrium with the air but for now the air is probably colder.

Invite him inside where it is warm.
Tell him the oven is even warmer and cozier. Don't forget to have him take off his feathers.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Re: speaking of ice
Besides the body heat he's losing into the ice, he's losing some into the air. Even though his feathers provide good insulation, he would lose less heat that way by sitting down and reducing his exposed surface area. That would be particularly beneficial now that the wind chill is so bad.BigDrawMan wrote:peacock2121 wrote:His feathers protect his body from the cold better than his feet are protected by whatever is on the bottom of his feet.

i intuit he is decreasing his surface area that is exposed to the air
the temperature of the ice doesnt matter, because Carl has down under his belly feathers, and a big gut.
he dont need no school cancellation

indeed
we are cointuity
carl seems impervious to the wind, though
i heard that waterbirds leg/foot veins and arteries are twined to keep the vein blood warm.
