Re: Sploofus scores for January...
YMMV, but I'm pretty sure the "clock" stops as soon as you hit the button to send your answer. For me, the delay occurs between hitting "Show me the Question" and the question actually appearing.littlebeast13 wrote:TheCalvinator24 wrote:Once, I got one in either under a second or just over and scored about 1800.SportsFan68 wrote:Just out of curiosity, anybody know what the minimum and maximum speed bonuses are?
I answered a very easy question today in 3.something seconds and ended up with a score of 1596. Is the minimum score 1,000, maximum 1,600?
My guess is that the theoretical highest score is 2000, but that would require getting the answer in 0.0 seconds.
If you get it right, the least you will get is 1000, but if you don't get timed out, I believe you will get a t least a few "time bonus" points.
I have never answered a question in under 5 seconds because there is always at least a 3 second delay between me clicking the answer button and the clock stopping....
Not that it helps when you miss half of the questions like I have this month.....

My basis for this claim about the clock stopping is that I have had occasions when I hit the button to send my answer and it sat there for a good 10 seconds before processing. My time on these occasions was well under the amount of time I sat there waiting.

That could be too. I just know that even on teh instances where it takes me only a couple seconds to submit the answer like this morning, I still get times of 5 seconds or longer.....

I don't know that there's a rhyme nor reason to it. I know it didn't take me 6 seconds to answer what was the City of Brotherly Love, but I felt that I hesitated on another question and it gave me a time of under 3 seconds.littlebeast13 wrote:TheCalvinator24 wrote:YMMV, but I'm pretty sure the "clock" stops as soon as you hit the button to send your answer. I do know that I have consistently poorer times on one of my computers and they both share the same internet connection.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

You don't get any points for it, but I get a kick out of correcting quizzes. This came up today on a quiz
What was the American astronaut Alan B. Shepherd's achievement?
THE CORRECT ANSWER WAS: First to orbit the earth
Oops. Gagarin was the first to orbit, Shepard was first American in space in Mercury capsule, Glenn first American in orbit.
