Not just another redneck junk car

#1 Post by themanintheseersuckersuit » Fri Jan 02, 2009 2:49 pm

Close your eyes and imagine opening a deserted garage door, only to find a forgotten four-wheeled treasure sitting there in perfect condition. What would it be? We have a feeling we'll get all sorts of answers in the comments section, but for many enthusiasts, the answer would be, without hesitation, the Bugatti Type 57S Atalante. And that's exactly what the children of the late (and appropriately named) Dr. Harold Carr found in their father's garage.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The article says it'll be auctioned off in February. Can you match the high estimate of $8.8 million? :)

The Carr family must not have been very close, if the kids had no idea their father had bought this.

Yet, they will benefit greatly.

I wonder what Clive Cussler and Jay Leno will be doing in February.

Well, maybe the bidding won't go so high, what with the bad economy and all.

Friend of a friend went to the big auto auction in Auburn, IN, several years ago. A Stutz Bearcat came up for auction. Two guys standing behind said F of a F said if they could get it for about 300K they would do it. They did. F of a F turned around and it was Jay Leno. F of a F was afraid to look around before because he thought the auctioneer was looking at him! He was afraid to move. LOL

The end

I'm still saving up for my 1937 DeLage cabriolet. I think there might still be some fixer-uppers out there in the neighborhood of $2 million or so, and perhaps a bit less if somebody needs the cash. I trust that sufficient funds and the car will come into my life at approximately the same time, because neither has made an appearance so far.
