Spoiler
Chad, you were a lot of fun to watch tonight. It was great to see GOOD game play after Thursday's Shatner crapfest. Poor Phil just seemed so freakin' nervous, it's too bad he couldn't have taken some of your patience and calm-cool-collectedness on himself, but in truth, he did so well with you in the elimination round, I had hope that he'd help you win some major bucks in the bonus round. Yes, it would have been different had you played with Julie, but it also would have been different if you'd played with, say, Betty White. You have to do the best with what you're dealt, and you did all that and more. Congrats!

No, each contestant gets the opportunity to play with each of the celebrities. The contestant who performs the best, and goes on to play for up to one-million dollars is then paired with the celebrity whom they scored the highest---guessed the most words correctly.
Okay. I guess my next question is -- what if it's a tie between the two celebs?
Then they play with the last celebrity they played with.

So at least in theory, if you're obliterating your opponent in the initial phase of the game, but you have a strong preference to play the bonus round with a particular celebrity, your best strategy would be to intentionally miss some words when paired with the non-preferred celeb? I wonder if that would ever actually happen. It seems like a perverse rule.

Congratulations Chad. It was enjoyable to watch you. I like you took your time at the end to think of the final word for sheets.

But it was not a tie. He scored more points with Phil, so there was no tiebreaker.

Very good playing Chad. I've updated your page: http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=1666

to include your winnings.

Julie outplayed Phil in the battle of the reality hosts. My favorite moment was the first guy giving clues for "coma" when the word was "comma."

I came to the Bored and saw the reminder so I saw the last 20 minutes (I was watching the New Jersey Giants against the Charlotte Panthers overtime game).

Good Job, enjoy the dough.

You would've won the $100,000 easily if Julie had been your partner. With Phil being a native New Zealander, I knew that he wouldn't correctly answer American passwords like "Gettysburg" or "Supremes". But how the hell does anybody (American or not) not get "state"?! United... United... STATES! STATES, PHIL! <grumble>®!

Spend that $25,000 wisely, Chad. :)

I would think that the intention of the rule is for the contestant's benefit -- so that he or she can play with the celebrity they did the best with. But apparently the PTB's never heard of percentages. It's ludicrous to think that one could correctly answer 60% of one's passwords (6 of 10) with one's first celeb, and 100% (5 for 5) with one's second and be required by the rules to play with the first. DUH!

But that aside, the game was exciting. Chad, you were brilliant. And poised.

On a separate issue, I was surprised that Crayola was an acceptable clue for crayon.

"Gettysburg" was a tough one, given the rule that you're only allowed three clues. And "Civil War" is prohibited because it's two words! You'd need to be playing with a sharp history buff to get a sequence like "Battle...Pennsylvania...Lee".

If he hadn't beaten the opponent so badly that they didn't have to play the last round, he would have played with Julie.

That just does not seem fair to me.

Let me add my congratulations to you, Chad. I had hopes that you would go farther but when they said you'd be paired with Phil I feared there might be problems. It's a shame you didn't get to mention your experience with Kids J! - the discussion about you wanting to be a game show host would have been a good segue. Oh, well, enjoy the cash - I can't wait for your "behind the scenes" story.

Very fun to watch.

I felt for Phil. I know that is not a popular feeling to have, but the poor guy told you he was the weak link (or some version of that).

I was amazed at how little pop culture stuff he knew. The American history stuff.... well, I wouldn't know his countries history, I guess.

You stayed calm and collected, I saw you try to figure out what he would know. You did the best you could under those conditions.

I woulda gone for it as well - You did great.

Given the lack of time constraints now, I would like to have tried something like "Lincoln...battlefield...address." That would remove the requirement that the other know the location of Gettysburg.

I would have done just Lincoln - <pause> address - then used battlefied if necessary.

I thought about going that way first, but then thought the guesser might go off towards 1600 Pennsylvania.

And, yes, it's much easier from home.

Is the sequence "Lincoln's . . . blank . . . address" legal? --Bob

Nope, only one word at a time.
What he meant was using "Lincoln's" as the first clue, "blank" as the second and "address" as the third. This would have been legal, but there is no way Phil would have gotten it.

Sounds like you did a great job, Chad! Unfortunately, I was not able to check the Bored much the past few weeks and missed your earlier "pimpage" of your show. Otherwise, I would have taped it as I was enroute to IL while the actual show was one. Congratulations at doing so well and enjoy your winnings!
