OMG we have snow!

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Sun Dec 14, 2008 11:36 am

Yeah yeah, I know that for Canada that is not unusual, but for my part of Canada it is!.

We normally don't fall below freezing, and have rain and wind vs snow, rather like Seattle's weather.

Last night Big J wanted to go to the Rec Center for Teen Dropin night (there is this girl, you know) and so we headed out around 8 pm. I dropped him off and went to the mall across the road to scope out some further holiday gifties. When I came out about 1/2 hour later, it was to a blinding snowstorm.

I headed over to the rec center, gathered Big J and the Girl. She lives about 1/2 mile from the center, so I drove her home too. Took about 1/2 hour to get there, as I don't have snow tires, just all seasons, and this was icy wet snow. Then we headed home and that took another 1/2 hour.

It hasn't stopped and we now have about 3 inches on the ground with more falling. The city owns 1, yes that is right 1 snow plow, so we won't be driving anytime soon.

Maybe you could lend your snowplow to some cities in Alabama.

It's been snowing here as long as predicted -- all night, clearning off around noon.

But it's not snowing as much as predicted. Flakes are drifting by about three feet apart. At this rate, we would have a foot of snow in about two weeks. I'm not complaining -- we're supposed to get snow through Thursday, so I will happily take the half a foot vs. six feet.

Good luck with the snow, Saucy. Hope it melts for you soon.

We are having a beautiful, if breezy, afternoon. This 73-degree delight will last until shortly after 4 p.m., according to the tv weather guys, when an artic cold front will arrive and our next ice storm can begin.

Wow! Snow in Victoria! One plow? Our neighbourhood has one plow. Right now we've had a few days of rain and most of the snow is gone but it's started up again tonight. 5 cm expected by morning. We don't even send out the plow for that.

A foot and a half later . . .

Too cold to snow right now. Brr!

Supposed to snow tomorrow afternoon, then quit for at least a couple weeks -- or until the next system develops.

Just wish it coulda snowed on our last Broncos home game -- win or lose, love those holiday break ski reservations. Oh well.

I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland.

I do not hate it.

Winter Storms isolate Death Valley

Good afternoon. I am writing to follow up on the invitation below. In addition to Ed Begley, Jr., it looks like there is also a very good possibility that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be speaking at the event. We have set aside rooms at the Furnace Creek Inn for members of the media. You are certainly welcome to assign someone to cover the event. You can RSVP by replying to this email. I look forward to hearing from you.

Because of the winter storm and several road closings in the area, the December 16, 2008 dedication of the solar photovoltaic system in Death Valley National Park has been cancelled.

We didn't have the water on the ground freeze here last night. :P The high was just about 40 though. :(

i live in southwestern Michigan, where we get a LOT of snow (mostly lake effect-blame Lake Michigan). We had 5 inches last night, and we are under a winter storm watch for tomorrow/Friday. They are talking major storm-possibly up to 15 inches of the white stuff. Next week, just before Christmas ANOTHER system is supposed to give us even more snow. Santa will need to bring his boots and a shovel!
