TAR thread

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Mon Dec 08, 2008 8:24 am

I haven't watched this season consistently, but I did see the finale, last night.
Spoiler
The frat boys fell that far behind the other teams because they got an incompetent taxi driver? That's one thing I don't like about this show, that the outcome may not depend on their own efforts.

Spoiler
The Frat boys have made more mistakes and goofups over the race than any other team to finish in the history of the show. I was not surprised. Nick and Starr and Tina and Ken both checked with their drivers before getting into the cab.

The editing is always suspect in this, as from reports from people who found things out state that there was about 1/2 hour between Nick and Starr's arrival and Ken and Tina's. It was no surprise that Nick and Starr won, as they dominated right from the start, and I think won more legs than any other team ever.

It was interesting to note that Phil did not mention that Toni and Dallas were not there, that they were still in Russia waiting for new passports.

I hope TPTB gave them a few extra bucks so that they didn't have to spend that time sleeping in the street!

Spoiler
Of course, Nick is keeping his day job:

He's appearing in The Fantastiks off-Broadway.
I am about 25% sure of this.

Just reposting what I put in the Charm School thread on this topic.
Spoiler
At the conclusion of the Amazing Race there was one team conspicuously absent from the finish line. I feel like the season should've ended with a shot of Toni and Dallas waiting on line in some Embassy with Dallas just going nuts and yelling at himself. "Dammit Dammit Dammit! I would've totally been making out with Starr right now! I $#%^ING HATE RUSSIA! At which point Putin's secret police arrested him. This definitely happened.

I don't know, clem. After the Russian taxi driver let the frat boys stiff him a couple episodes back, I think the Russians are getting soft.

And, in that situation, like all of TAR, we know that there's a cameraman involved in the scene, too. While the frat boys were futilely trying to barter their meager possessions to pay the fare, I'm sure the cabbie was thinking that the camera might cover the bill nicely!

Ken and Tina are from here (not my here but my folk's here)

Seems Ken was living in SanDiego and in Sept (after taping was done), he moved all of his stuff to Tampa in time for Tina's birthday.

They are pitching a travel show for old people - travel and stay in shape.

He says the edit job was not kind to her! Ha!

No, Ken and Tina were the estranged couple who came in second.

Little surprise that Nick and Starr won and so not much drama to be had. As noted editing makes it difficult to know just how far behind teams are and I am surprised Nick and Tina fell that far back since they appeared to leave the roadblock about the same time. That could have been an editing trick as well. Then again they were not really that competitive to begin with. It would have taken bad luck or a severe mistake for Nick and Starr to lose.

I too wish they had more legs where they had to drive themselves and held their fate in their own hands. But in some places that would be impractical. Driving through downtown Dehli (or even Moscow). No thanks!

Making them figure out how to use buses and subways to travel in cities when possible is a much better test to me then depending on the luck of getting a good cab driver.

It would not surprise me if the frat boys were still trying to figure out the pictures at the roadblock by the time the others had crossed the finish line and they had to go collect them to show them at the end before it got too dark...

I personally thought TAR has jumped the shark with the same ol' contestants and similar tasks ...

For my overseas adventures, I'm watching Ewan macgregor's Long Way Down. Much better and with humor to boot

I can't say that I was surprised at the outcome, given Nick and Starr's strong finishes on the various legs of the race. However I think that had Dallas not lost the money and passports they might have given Nick and Starr a run for their money (no pun intended). Someone posted an article from People that indicated Dallas and Starr had struck up a romance; I wonder how long it will last? I also wonder if they'll be one of the couples asked back for the next "celebrity TAR" <shudder>.

Notice that Nick is a WE/WE?
