Fire Stuff

#1 Post by PlacentiaSoccerMom » Wed Nov 19, 2008 12:51 am

One of the teachers at Maddie's school lost his house. He's a really nice guy who gave his class candy on Halloween. (Always a plus in Maddie's eyes.)

I found out at a booster meeting last night that he lost his house in the fire. What's even sadder is that his daughter is getting married very soon and they planned on having the wedding and reception at the house and now there is no house.

It becomes more real when you know someone directly affected.

I am sorry.

That really sucks. I guess you just have to be thankful that they all made it out okay and will all be able to attend the wedding, wherever it may be. Are you guys going to do any fundraisers or activities for him?

Yes, they made the call last night. There is going to be a fundraiser at Claim Jumper tonight and they are asking for donations of cash and gift cards.

That's very nice...I'm sure he is insured too but I think having the community rally behind them will make them feel a lot better. Maybe a local banquet/reception hall will donate their facility for the wedding in light of this sad story!!!

Maddie talked to him today and he is going to try to rent another house in time for the wedding.

I wrote a check.

They are also having a food drive at Maddie's school.

She turned in her food and her check today in her home room. She was the only person in her class to donate to both causes. Her teacher kept telling the kids how nice it was at least one person in their class cared about people who are less fortunate and she felt embarrassed by the attention because she felt like the other kids were going to jump her after class.
