The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Finally, something that makes this political season a little more palatable.

Maddie was thinking about being Sarah Palin for Halloween, because she does a spot on imitation, but she decided to be Tinkerbell instead.

So she opted to go hs someone who can face reality as opposed to someone who thinks that just wishing makes it true?

(Sorry, there are times I can't resist a set-up line)

At the Halloween party I went to Friday night, Sarah Palin was escorted by Obama, McCain showed up later. Biden was a no show. The Sarah was pretty good and no mask, unlike Obama and McCain who were masks.

No, she's trying to impress a boy.

Then I would suggest blood.

My boys are making corpses as we speak/type/whatever. Well, Andrew was in his ghoul costume with glowing eyes and hanging out in the front yard, but the other two are stuffing old clothes and painting on a bunch of bloody injuries. Stephen even made a coffin himself with some old boards. I think I need my dad's truck a lot next week....

There are no Palin masks, or so I've heard. She wasn't named early enough to get them into production.
