What is this about an "exemption"? You can do that?

I can't believe I'm still on the list and it's the 22nd of the month.
A banner month for me.

Unless there are 60 days this month, I doubt I will make it....

You can choose to exclude one category of questions from your QOTD options.

Or you used to could.

I just looked for it, to tell you where to go to exercise the option, but they may have done away with it on the recent upgrade. But I am still not getting the category I opted-out of, so maybe we were grandfathered in.

If you do find out about an exemption, please let us know.

Also, unbelievable as it seems (at least to me) at the 23rd day of the month I just hit #10. So I made it to the top ten at least until Trevor answers his question.

References to the exemption option appear to have disappeared, except for one through the help pages. When you click on the link on the "Problems with exemption option" page, you get a 404 error. They are either getting rid of it, or there is currently a problem with it.

Surely, people here aren't using it, are they? I thought that option was for wussies!

I got a question that was once used on PTBAM. Only 16% got it right. And I did, too.

For now, I'm in the top 50. :)

I turned on the option after I saw a geography question that only someone who lived there could have known (some town in Wales that has zero significance except to the people who live there, and there was no help in the spelling or word origins). Yep. My reasoning was that everyone had the option, so it was not an unfair advantage. Now I am not so sure, since the option was disabled or hidden, but I can't put it back.

The option is also for people who don't give a crap about what they don't give a dam about (that would be me).

Although I guess I won't be able to do my exemption experiment now.

I had no idea there was an exemption option. If I'd known about it, I'd have readily used it on "Sports Soup." Figures that now that I know about it it's gone!

For me, Sports Soup is as appitizing as Bon Vivant's Vichyssoise - which I always think of when I hear the phrase 'revenge is a dish best served cold' and Bon Vivant's version sure would work for that!

If I thought I would learn something that would retain I wouldn't mind keeping it, but if they ever bring back the exemption, sports gets my vote...

I have no exemptions, on the reasoning that I'll learn something in those weak areas. My weakest is probably "Music and Musicians", and in truth I still get many correct. When they don't ask "Which is not a {artist's name} album?", that is. Today, I got an opera question that I actually knew, though my initial panic made me slow to respond.

A question: what is a "sploofactor", and is a higher or lower number better? I found it in my directory listing.

I have not minded the sports questions so much, despite the fact that I am a certified Igsportsnoramus. More of my Qs have had something to do with minor sports such as curling or the hammer throw than "who won the Super Bowl" kinds of things.

Ya don't hear references to Bon Vivant vichyssoise very often, the BoTox of cold soup.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Well, Trever, I let you ahead of me in the queue - I got a dreaded Sports Soup question today with a question regarding in what sport did so and so win a number of medals in the winter olympics ... ugh.

Me too, but I can't help feel lucky. I've had a long streak of "things Bobby happens to know" mixed with a couple of lucky guesses.

Last month (which was my first full month playing) I finished #50, which I think is more likely my true level.
