Misty May-Treanor Injured, Out of 'Dancing with the Stars
Misty May-Treanor Injured, Pulls Out of 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 7
Monday, October 06, 2008
Dancing with the Stars celebrity Misty May-Treanor has suffered an injury on Friday and is out of the competition for good.
In a statement released by ABC, the producers of Dancing with the Stars said, “Misty May-Treanor sustained an injury on Friday and received immediate medical attention.”
Doctors are now saying that her injury is to her Achilles tendon. The Olympic beach volleyball star is resting comfortably at home, but her competition on Dancing with the Stars must come to an end.

Current frontrunner, Brooke Burke, has also spoken publicly about Misty May-Treanor's condition. She told LA's 104.3 FM today, “We're all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week. We don't know yet. It's such a bummer.”
May-Treanor's status in the competition will be officially announced during tonight's performance show, but it's unclear as of yet who, if anyone, will take her place in the competition.
“I heard [Edyta Sliwinska] and [Maksim Chmerkovskiy] may dance together since both of their partners are gone, but I don't know what's going to happen,” Burke said.
I'm not sure how true that is, since having two professional dancers together would turn the entire premise of Dancing with the Stars upside down. E! Online's Ryan Seacrest hints at a more realistic outcome: Kim Kardashian, the most recently eliminated star, may come back for a second stab at the mirror ball trophy.
“If they ask me to, I'm available. I'm back home tomorrow. We'll see!” Kardashian said.
Misty May-Treanor and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy have had three very respectable performances on Dancing with the Stars this season. They have scored 21 out of 30 for all three performances: a foxtrot, a mambo and a paso doble. In each routine, Misty May-Treanor exhibited great strength and desire to succeed.
Who do you think should replace Misty and Maks in Dancing with the Stars season 7?

I doubt anyone will replace her. Perhaps someone will get an extra week of grace period and there will be no elimination this week.
Edyta and Maks may dance the dance she was supposed to have done just to make the timing work out.

It's interesting how we've seen so many "stars" lose 15-30 pounds while participating in this competition and this isn't the first serious injury. I hope Misty will be OK. Her type of injury is one that no one wants to deal with.
I think Silvercamaro would agree that dancing is really an athletic event.

Ouch! I ruptured my AT in 1981. My right calf is still 3/4 inch smaller than the left--and, no, I did not do the measuring. I could care less, but my MD thought it was worth noting.Doctors are now saying that her injury is to her Achilles tendon.

I got totally queasy when they showed the injury footage. The sound of it took me right back to when I tore two calf muscles in April. It's one of the most sickening sounds ever. (And it really is that loud, I was downstairs at the time and my mom heard it clear upstairs.)christie1111 wrote:I like watching this show, but tonight's episode will not be one a spend my time on. They have to let everyone stay so the whole, who will we vote out thing is anti-climactic.
I don't see how they can do anything else.

I ruptured my left AT in 1992, playing touch football.
I did not find it painful, as much as I found it uncomfortable. The tendon snaps back into the calf, so it feels a bit like a charley horse.
The rehab afterwards is punishing, though. I did about 3 months PT after the cast came off, and it really took about a year for it to feel normal.
The rehab experience gave me great respect for physical therapists and the job they do. And there were a lot of patients in rehab who were in worse shape than I was, so that kept me from complaining.

I am about 25% sure of this.
