The Master. He held the record for WWTBAM earnings for at least a while. Maybe he still does.

I met Ed in San Antonio when elwing and I were there for a vacation trip. He hosted us at a Mexican restaurant called Chuy's, along with several other Texas BBs.

Does anyone know the origin of his Bored name? Sounds like there’s a story to be told.

I believe it's a nod to Edward the Confessor, king of Wessex, who died in 1066 and was succeeded by Harold Godwinson, who was defeated by William the Conqueror.

I was there when Ed got pelted by a glowing potato....

This horrible question gained infamy even before Ed challenged it and was given the chance to return and win the $1,860,000 jackpot available for that show. But the stunning reveal of the "correct" answer left the entire studio in stunned silence, and even left Regis at a loss for words. After Ed left the set, the normally affable host went on a memorable tirade I will never forget. "What are we trying to do now, TRICK THE CONTESTANTS!?!?!?"

Was glad to see him overcome that ambush and win it all. I will always remember him, as the carryover contestant for my show, advising those of us who would be in the RoF that day on some tips he picked up from his first taping.... like counting the commercial breaks, of which there were five, to know how close it was to the end of the show...

And apropos of nothing, Ed had one of the most random avatars of anyone on the Bored. A photo he took of his neighbor's house on fire, which he on hand when asked why he didn't have an avatar and never changed...

That explanation, while correct, doesn’t do King Edward justice. His ancestors did rule Wessex for 400 years. However, Edward was king of all of England, not just Wessex. He’s called the Confessor because of his piety, and he’s a saint in both the Catholic and Anglican churches.
