I bump into musical memories of TBone nearly every day in my car and in my CD collection at home (yes, I still use discs).

I too have musical memories of Mr. Bone. He sent four CDs for one of my high school class reunions, one for each year, freshman through senior.

What a guy! He missed being on the show by a one day twist of fate. He would have knocked em dead.

I will always have the CDs he made for me. He opened my eyes to some new music - I miss telling him about new musicians I found.

TBone was THE music man on this Bored. LSWE has not been the same since his passing...

I took great interest in his annual Boneys lists in the mid 2010's when there was a healthy intersection between them and some of the newer indie music that was being included on the muzak CD's I heard nightly at work.

I remember TBone from one our previous gathering spots, when we started playing Lyrically Speaking on a regular basis. Back then, the honor of hosting often went to the winner of the previous round, which was never me because I was typically a solid # 6 or 7 on the leaderboard.

TL;DR:
TBone won LS and arranged it so that I, who came in fifth, could host the next round of LS, which I accepted. By now I had only hosted Friday Night Gender Defender and I was excited to host LS. I made it through the challenge and the last day I posted an LS list called Vandal Faves. TBone got them all right (naturally) and made a comment to the effect of, "If this is the type of music you like then we'll get along just fine."

And up until his untimely passing, we did.

Thom was well known for his rock n roll acumen and near encyclopedic knowledge of popular music. He shared his love of music with many BBs by creating an annual Boneys list and accompanying CD set. My son and I commuted together for a few years and the Boneys were a commute favorite for both of us. All the labels were in Thom's own handwriting. It must have taken him hours to make them.

Dude had a snappy sense of humor and he could take a good ribbing as well as dish it out. He was the butt of many jokes in some of the crappy promos, and laughed along with them (or so it seemed).

He was a dyed-in-wool Yankees fan and celebrated their success. But when the Red Sox finally won the World Series in '04 after defeating the Yankees in the playoffs, he was the first to congratulate we New Englanders.

I really miss Thom. He was always up for a good Bored challenge and held his own in most of them. During a season of Dead or Alive? his brother died suddenly. I offered to suspend the game out of respect, but he asked me not to, saying the Bored needed a respite from "the stupid political wars on the Bored." He was right about that.

Rest in peace, Thom. You were a good man and a classy BB. Your effect on this Bored will linger for a long, long time.

Rock on.
