Since the subject has come up, I've been wanting to know just how much "average" people actually use AI. I get several bulletins about the business side of AI (who's doing what) and how-to tips that supposedly tell you what AI can and can't do well. (Pictures of people with six fingers... not good.) But I confess the only thing I use AI for is to do quick Google searches for information. And while I might use the answer it generates in a crossword puzzle, I would do further independent research before using it in any important documents. I have two grammar checkers (Grammarly and ProWriting Aid), and they both have AI features, but I don't use them except to sometimes agree with their rewording of a particular sentence in one of my reviews. Since my reviews have my name on them, I want them to be my own work product and not some computer-generated content.
So, I'm asking, how much and for what does anyone here use AI nowadays?

Re: AI Question
We get access to Google's AI for free as teachers in my school system. I have experimented with it, because I thought it might be a useful time-saver, much as electronic gradebooks became in the early 2000s. Things it's good at: short, formative assessments that don't require deep thinking; lesson plans (I'm not a lesson plan believer, especially since I've been writing them since the early 1980s and the goalposts for what makes a "good one" keep moving around); and graphics to include on printed work. Proofreading them, though, can be fairly exhausting. Going forward, I'll probably only use it for standardized assessments and lesson plans demanded by administrators who are trying to justify their existence by piling more work on teachers.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2026 9:48 amSince the subject has come up, I've been wanting to know just how much "average" people actually use AI. Re: AI Question
Aside from the occasional Google search, I have not used AI for anything - and have no reason to do so.
