The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, whose members were all appointed earlier this year by Trump, voted unanimously to authorize the U.S. Mint to begin producing commemorative gold coins bearing his image. The size and denomination of the coin are still under discussion. U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach released a statement:
Federal law says no living President can appear on U.S. currency. However, the acting chief of the Office of Design Management at the Mint says that the Secretary of Treasury has the authority to authorize the minting and issuance of 24-karat gold commemorative coins, which Sec. Scott Bessent has relied on.As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, and there is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump,
I don't know if people can use these coins to pay for gasoline, rent, groceries, and all the other items that have gotten much more expensive under Trump. Of course, that assumes they still have jobs which a lot of them don't anymore.
