Here's the facts, minus the chest pounding claims about "woke." Cracker Barrel sales were declining. Their core clientele, people like Flock, were getting older and in some cases dying off. Many of them did not return to the restaurants after the pandemic. The customers were not spending as much money. They weren't coming as often. They rarely came for dinner, which has the highest profit margins. They felt the menus were stale and "same old, same old." Many of the recipes and processes hadn't changed for decades. The restaurants were not attracting younger people, who preferred a brighter look to the restaurants, more comfortable seating, and alcohol sales. There were complaints about the quality of the food. Julie Massino, who became CEO of Cracker Barrel in 2023, was not a DEI hire. She was the CEO of Taco Bell International before taking this job. The company did extensive market research and focus groups before starting the rebranding program. This included all aspects of the restaurant, including those in the kitchen areas. They streamlined preparation processes, improved employee training, and simplified each employee's duties. They have added items to the menu. These aren't exotic or "woke" dishes. They are country cooking staples like chicken and rice, banana pudding, pot roast (which has been very popular), and a hashbrown casserole shepherd's pie.
Cracker Barrel stock took a hit today with the new logo reveal, but that's going to be like a lot of short-term reactions. How many people quit buying Aunt Jemima products when the company renamed them to Pearl Milling Company? Cracker Barrel has a lot of "loyal" customers who have flooded social media in the last few days but they haven't been expressing their loyalty with their wallets. How often did they come? How much did they spend? The new breed of customers they're going for are younger, come more often, and spend more per trip. That's how you stay in business, not with aging penny-pinchers who adore nostalgia. (I label myself among the aging penny-pincher aspect of this.)

Here's a perspective I wholeheartedly agree with. And I doubt that SSS has ever eaten at a Cracker Barrel.
The real reason Cracker Barrel has been struggling is that its service and food quality nose-dived after COVID, and instead of fixing that, the company and its woke executives decided to go full Bud Light and taste the rainbow and dare its customers to object.
They stopped bringing you biscuits and cornbread as a matter of course, then they shrunk them, the food started to taste and look reheated instead of freshly prepared, and the service got slower and sloppier. Everyone who’s been a loyal customer over the years has experienced this. It’s undeniable.
Those are admittedly tricky problems to fix, especially given how service quality everywhere has sucked after COVID. It’s hard to find wait staff and cooks who always show up when they’re supposed to and take pride in their work.
Cracker Barrel executives refused to address those problems—problems that any customer would’ve pointed out had they bothered to ask. Instead, the executives went all-in on woke alphabet BS: DEI this, BLM that, LGBT whatever.
Because that’s what people want at an old country diner: gay race communism shoved in their faces.
The stupid rebrand in which executives stripped every last bit of charm and character from the company and its restaurants and stores was just the latest in a long line of attempts to set money on fire by breaking what didn’t need to be fixed and refusing to fix what was obviously broken.

A time where people worked with their hands, and prayed before meals, and didn’t bother locking their doors at night. The old soda signs reminded us that our money wasn’t always worthless and our country wasn’t always run by greedy bankers. We used to be a country that built things and conquered the frontier.
That’s the feeling that Cracker Barrel used to evoke, and it’s what made its customers so loyal. It’s why people would stop there for lunch during a long road trip instead of just grabbing fast food and getting back on the highway. It’s why people were happy to wait 30 minutes for a table after Sunday School and happily mill about the store until their table was ready.
And it’s that feeling and that America which the woke parasites in charge of Cracker Barrel deliberately sought to maliciously destroy. They refused to fix the actual problems and instead decided the real problem was its own customers, which it set out to re-educate.
I hope they had their fun, because Cracker Barrel is done. They killed it, wrapped the corpse in a rainbow flag, and then made it do a little puppet show in New York City for the entertainment of all their woke little friends. I have eaten at Cracker Barrel, twice. Once in Charlotte on the way to my nephew's wedding, and once at the Norcross (Atlanta) Cracker Barrel a few weeks later. (I think I went once before years earlier, but I may have it confused with a Denny's that's in the same neighborhood.) Confession: I had a gift card a relative had given us for Christmas a couple of years earlier. But that's in keeping with my usual methodology of seeking places to eat where I can get bargains. As for the criticisms of the CEO, you can look at the numbers. Revenue is up. Profits are up. Customers are visiting more often and spending more money per visit. They are attracting new young customers who don't come after church on Sunday but for dinner during the week where they spend more money. Your critique didn't address all the substantive changes the company has made in the last couple of years but instead chose to focus exclusively on a supposedly gay agenda. I thought for a moment that the company had fired all their wait staff and replaced them with drag queens and guys in leather bikinis.
You can always tell when Flock or his "sources" have no facts on which to base their criticisms by the number of times that words like woke, gay, and trans show up in their comments.

It's funny how all the comments from "ex-customers" I've seen online in the last couple of days use virtually identical phrasing, down to mentioning the half-hour wait for Sunday brunch? The source didn't mention any of the menu changes, the loyalty program, the serving of alcohol (a big profit margin item), and improved training and staffing responsibilities. Adding pot roast and banana pudding to the menu of a country restaurant seems like a smart idea to me. Instead, they chose to focus on the logo change, eliminating the dark rustic decor (which struck me as kind of creepy when I went there), and the woke, gay agenda.
I'm curious how often Flock actually went to Cracker Barrel in the past.
Here's a description of the pot roast they've added to the menu: "Slow-Braised Pot Roast—A family classic featuring slow-roasted rib roast, carrots, onions and celery in a savory, homestyle gravy with mashed potatoes, choice of classic side and Buttermilk Biscuits or Corn Muffins." That doesn't sound very woke to me.

Cracker Barrel had the simplest restaurant model possible, and it was one that made people fall and stay in love with the brand for decades: comfort food in a setting that reminded you of your grandparents’ home. The food was good, the people were kind, and the setting felt like a loving home filled with people who cared about each other. That was it.
And the moronic executives who’ve now destroyed something like $2 billion worth of that company’s value since 2020 have decided the last little bit of charm left in the place needed to have its soul ripped out and covered up with ship lap and geometric artwork and consultant-approved off-white paint. Forget your grandmother’s home-cooking after church—this is now IHOP by Joanna Gaines, complete with gay pride rainbows and in-your-face DEI sloganeering.
Cracker Barrel wasn’t just a company or a restaurant. It represented a slice of Americana that millions would desperately like to return to. A time where people worked with their hands, and prayed before meals, and didn’t bother locking their doors at night. The old soda signs reminded us that our money wasn’t always worthless and our country wasn’t always run by greedy bankers. We used to be a country that built things and conquered the frontier.

"He's not going anywhere — he's family," the company said in the statement. “We love seeing how much you care about our ‘old timer.’ We love him too,” the company said in its statement. “Uncle Herschel will still be on our menu (welcome back, Uncle Herschel’s Favorite Breakfast Platter), on our road signs, and featured in our country store.” “The things people love most about our stores aren’t going anywhere [either]: rocking chairs on the porch, a warm fire in the hearth, peg games on the table, unique treasures in our gift shop, and vintage Americana with antiques pulled straight from our warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee,” it read.
Cracker Barrel said its focuses remain country hospitality and generous portions of food at fair prices. The refresh, it said, was to ensure the restaurant will be there for the next generation. "That means showing up on new platforms and in new ways, but always with our heritage at the heart," it said. "We know we won't always get everything right the first time, but we'll keep testing, learning, and listening to our guests and employees."
Translation: the company apologizes for not communicating its rationale behind the changes better (which is true, explanations in trade journals aren't the same as a general press release that should have happened last week.) However, the logo stays, Uncle Herschel stays but not on the logo. The rest of the changes stay as well. And by the way, those criticizing the CEO for being an out-of-touch liberal with a woke, DEI agenda should know that everything the company is doing was test marketed at a handful of locations and extensively in focus groups before being rolled out nationwide.
