I'm posting this here, even though it's actually a straight news story. MSNBC will be changing its name in the near future to MS NOW, which stands for My Source for News Opinions and the World. (The MS in the current name stands for Microsoft, which was a partner with NBC when the channel first launched back in the 1990s.)
The change is not a reaction to any recent news or political events. Instead, NBCUniversal spun off most of its cable assets, including MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, SyFy, USA Network, the Golf Channel, and others into a new corporation, Versant, in a move announced months ago. (Bravo will stay with the current NBCUniversal.) The MSNBC name change was just announced today, however. What's left of NBCUniversal will concentrate on NBC, Peacock, NBC Sports, Universal Pictures, and various amusement parks. None of the newly rebranded channels will use the NBC Peacock as part of their logos. The new MS NOW will have its own news staff and will compete with NBC News and other news outlets for stories.
