The Coffee Klatch that Solves the World's Problems

#1 Post by Spock » Sat Apr 05, 2025 8:13 am

I feel really bad for Li'l Spock that he heard the following but I am glad he did so we know what we are dealing with. This is actually more serious than you might think because it could keep people from renting land to us in the future and such.

I eat in the local restaurant about once a week, especially on Thursdays which is my main day to go to town as that is the only day I buy the Minneapolis paper as Thursday has the taste section and I like to read about restaurants and such. Thursday is also a day in which I buy both the powerball and mega millions.

I also eat there on some other days if I have to go to the bank for something. I really like to eat at my own table and read the paper in peace-hence I am always glad when there is no room left to join the coffee klatch which is the brain trust that meets there every day so I don't feel obligated to join them.

The leader of the klatch is a long-time family friend going back decades even back to the days when my grandfather helped his dad. He is also well-respected in the community. These 2 factors make what he said hurt more and hard to fathom.

On Thursday, he did not see L'il Spock walk into the restaurant (some of the other members of the group did). He and his girlfriend sat down a few tables away and waited for their food and planned to eat there. Li'l Spock hardly ever eats there.

All of the sudden out of nowhere, he hears "When you drive around in the fall you see everybody else combining and their trucks are moving, but when you drive by the Spocks the combine is never moving and the trucks are always sitting" from the leader of the klatch.

At which, Li'l Spock cranes his neck around to look at the group-as in "Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" When he craned his neck around-one of the guys was looking right at him. Needless to say, they got their food to go. As they were leaving he heard the guy who was looking at him say "Is that a Spock?" at which the commenter whispered "Yeah, it is." I hope he felt about an inch tall.

Li'l Spock blows very hot and cold and he was deeply hurt by this. Our combines must move at some point-as we get our crops harvested just like everybody else and we do other special management techniques that nobody else around here does.

It is going to be very hard for me to eat in the restaurant. Li'l Spock would really like to let the guy know that he heard the comment and what it was based on.
