But Think of the Poor Government

In a world where one of peoples' worst fears is an IRS audit where you have to account for every penny, I find the caterwauling over an audit of the government very amusing.

We all probably know of people who have had to spend a significant amount of money and time to clean up a minor discrepancy.

I remember BOB#s being ecstatic when the IRS hired 87,000 more agents to perform more anal financial audits on more people.

We all know of horror stories-but I this morning I remembered a case from my appraisal years.

I wasn't involved in the appraisal but other guys in the office told me about it. Apparently, the IRS audited a conservation easement appraisal that the firm had done and discovered a formula error in a spreadsheet that may or may not have changed the final result. If I remember correctly, the principal in our office received some pretty hard core threats such as possible jail time and loss of her appraisal licenses and such.

I do not know how the case finally worked out, but threats were a definite part of the process.

So, maybe we could cool it with the "poor government, they only meant well" routine.

I don’t think people are complaining about a government audit per se. Please show me someone who supports government waste.

I think the concern is that they’re laying off a huge amount of the workforce, and just cutting things without clear distinction. Again, I said this before. It’s one thing to look at USAID and say that certain projects don’t make sense, or are wasteful, or fraudulent. It’s completely different just to shut the whole organization down when it does have a body of work establishing that it does good things.

As with many things Trump does, they float examples and claim they’re doing one thing, but if you look at what they’re actually doing, it’s actually much bigger.

And I think you’re happy with that. I would just wish you would own it.

Right, ifonly. As if the left hasn't been doing that for years and years.

I'm sure you can deliver me an example of one thing USAID has done that can be construed as good use of taxpayer money and rest your case on that. That covers all the incredible money laundering and misuse of this agency that we would have never seen if Trump was not elected again.

People who do good work get laid off all the time. But this is the first time in my memory anyone in the federal government has been laid off. It's about time. Sorry.

Better to start over and figure out what is the best use of taxpayer money and what is not. It ain't Trump's fault.

I worked for the Federal government for 39 years. During that time my agency went through two Reductions in Force (RIFs). I don't know how many were RIFed overall, but my office lost three people the first time and four the second time. That was out of a total of 40 employees. And, yes, they lost their jobs; they were not reassigned to another office.

I am in agreement with Sen Kennedy.

Unfortunately, he went over ifonly's attention span of 10 minutes.

I wonder what Senator Kennedy thinks about Trump gutting our healthcare research apparatus. I know, I know, you think it’s a big pharma conspiracy to poison you. But it does a lot of investigation into cancer!

As someone else put it, now China is the leading biomedical research country in the world.

Make America great, indeed

You’ve earned yourself another nickname, by the: White Failure. Just because you sucked at all the things you tried, doesn’t mean that the immigrants or others are to blame. You just happen to suck. Stop burning the whole house down because you’re a failure.

Exactly - that is why you keep talking about it.

The money side of cancer, treating, yes.

Not any or enough on the prevention side. Sort of like if you spent a lot of time researching the best techniques for treating gunshots, but not giving a rats ass about stopping gunshots.

That would require gun control, and of course we can’t have that…

The research that the NIH does covers a broad range of issues. Including why cancer happens, but also stopping it. The thing is, these RFK junior types can pump up sunshine and vitamins all day, but the older you get, it becomes a near certainty that you get some kind of cancer - the question is, do you die from something else before it is known?

If you’re suggesting that we stop research into treating cancer, you’re a bigger fool than previously thought. If you’re not, I’m not even sure what your comment adds to the conversation.
