At least that is what our president is telling us.

He doesn’t offer specific evidence of this, just like he didn’t offer evidence that it was an illegal immigrant who murdered all those people in New Orleans. What if it turns out the air traffic controller was a white man? The helicopter pilot a gay black woman?

One thing that would be helpful right now would be a fully staffed administration that dealt with this. Unfortunately, he fired many appointees, some not even political, earlier this month, and those posts are not yet filled.

My thought is that the air traffic around DCA needs to be scaled back. It’s a restricted zone to begin with. Pilots I have talked to suggested that this is always a potential just based on the sheer numbers of planes going through.

Congress, I’m told, requested another five slots for airplane landing last year, as Congress prefers that airport over IAD or BWI. If we’re going to politicize it, perhaps look at them first.

Or just cut down the number of landings and move on without the political bullshit.

How does EDI widen the pool of candidates? In practice it narrows it. Like when Biden decided he had to nominate a black woman to the SC? Like Kamala was chosen to be VP because of her race and sex? These people were in the candidate pool, but jumped to the top because of their 'diversity'. Now convince me they were the best choices for the country.

I think all 3 of them, Hegseth, Patel and Kennedy, are the best choices for the position they were nominated for. I think they are all experienced and well-suited to implement the agenda that Trump was elected to carry out. I am excited about them because I fully support Trump's agenda. There’s a difference between blaming someone and suggesting that it’s incredibly ill advised to have no one in charge in case there was a disaster.

I don’t think Trump could’ve done anything to cause or stop this disaster, though long-term, trying to lay everyone off is a bad look when we are already understaffed with ATC.

But in the meantime, having no one in the position to deal with the disaster is extremely poor planning.

That’s a certainly blame worthy for a different reason.

It’s interesting, since I know somebody who for many years was an air traffic controller. I also know a couple of pilots.

They don’t seem to think diversity played any role.

The consensus at this point appears to be that the helicopter was slightly out of position. It was certainly above its normal operating height, by about double where it typically flies. It also seems to have been on the wrong side of the river given its usual course. ATC asked if there was visual confirmation of the incoming plane and the helicopter replied yes. They apparently were confused, but air traffic control can only do so much about that. At a certain point, air, traffic control, releases the pilot to fly visually.

This is all pending a formal review by the NTSB, of course.

We will see how much political manipulation goes into it. Truly, a test for the Trump administration. Do they try to cram through something that doesn’t fit the evidence to protect the Pentagon, or do they explain what actually happened?

Either way, flock can keep pointing out examples of diversity being bad here or there, but it doesn’t appear to have played any role in this crash, so it’s just inflammatory. Imagine if your loved one died and you had to deal with Trump saying all this stupid shit?

Seems very fair at this point to ask why is the military doing training exercise exercises in such a narrow corridor near such an important airport? Was there something about this training mission that could not wait until 2 AM, when there were a few aircrafts?

I’m starting to think the issue is not diversity, but a defense department that has spent the last ten days trying to scrub any evidence of Mark Milley being there, and passing measure after measure meant to inflict emotional distress on transgender soldiers.

You have to work the trade-offs between soldier safety and necessary/realistic training and there will always be, and always have been, training accidents.

Most prominently, it seems, are the military aviation training accidents, of which there were several just during the Biden Administration.

It's my understanding that this particular training flight was in support of command continuity - how to get important people out of D.C. in an emergency. If that's the case, then there is no way to do those missions anywhere else.
