This funding freeze is curious

He's trying to ketchup for the past 4 years of government malfeasance.
OK, I followed your suggestion and listened to Trump’s rambling speech at the signing of the Laken Riley bill. He started by addressing the spending freeze. I’m glad to hear Medicare and Medicaid aren’t affected. Then he mentioned some programs that they found and halted. One was $50 million to buy condoms for Hamas in Gaza, which the terrorists used to construct weapons. I knew that was false when I heard the ridiculous dollar amount, and of course there’s no such program. A real expenditure that they stopped is the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Program, which pays for bright Burmese youth to go to college in the Philippines. They probably thought it’s forbidden DEI training. Actually, it’s called that because it favors students from minority groups that the Myanmar government oppresses.flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:22 pmThe President is addressing this issue live right now. Instead of waiting for CBS to give you their talking points and informing us about them, try finding his response and listening to it directly from him. This is something you would never have gotten from the previous regime.
You guys made me laugh with mustard and ketchupflockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:13 amHe's trying to ketchup for the past 4 years of government malfeasance.
You knew it, didya? One was $50 million to buy condoms for Hamas in Gaza, which the terrorists used to construct weapons. I knew that was false when I heard the ridiculous dollar amount, and of course there’s no such program.
Maybe the question really is: Why is it our job to fund medical supplies and services to Hamas? Isn't that Iran's job? Humanitarian aid may be justified, but would we be funding hospitals for Germany and Japan during WWII? Has anyone vetted where this money is really going? With the UNRWA situation, we know the US under Biden did some really stupid shit. I think it's reasonable that expenditures like this get a good looking over.In a news release, the International Medical Corps, a global aid organization based in Los Angeles, responded that it has received about $68 million from USAID since Oct. 7, 2023, and has used the funding to operate two field hospitals in Gaza.
Caring for civilians in a war zone is a commendable calling, even if the combatants are monsters. My mom worked for the Red Cross during the siege of Jerusalem in 1948.International Medical Corps wrote:International Medical Corps has received $68,078,508 from USAID to support our operations in Gaza since October 7, 2023. With the generous support of USAID and the American people, we’ve used these resources to operate two large field hospitals currently located in central Gaza—one in Deir Al Balah and one in Al Zawaida—offering a combined total capacity of more than 250 beds, including 20 in the emergency room and 170 in the surgical department. These facilities provide 24/7 lifesaving medical care to roughly 33,000 civilians per month, in a highly dangerous and insecure environment where healthcare infrastructure has been decimated. (These activities, largely funded by the US government, were carried out in close coordination with US, Egyptian, Israeli and Red Cross authorities).
Perhaps injecting sarcasm into statements regarding United States foreign policy is not the best idea either. Too many of us simple minded left wingers and foreign leaders might be tempted to take the President at his word.flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 11:47 pmYou knew it, didya? One was $50 million to buy condoms for Hamas in Gaza, which the terrorists used to construct weapons. A little sarcasm is all that is needed to throw off the MSM. And you, apparently. Just like injecting bleach. I think we all know that Hamas doesn't need billions of condoms. History shows they don't really bother with them. But they could sure use $50 million in funding. Maybe buy a couple hundred condoms with it and blow the rest on other things.
Apparently there IS a program, and the $50 million is going to IMC through USAID.

But I guess you know, jar.
I agree. Trump should stay away from sarcasm, but he is who he is. That said, why should we not examine all expenditures of taxpayer money? It's long past time for it.kroxquo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 8:32 amPerhaps injecting sarcasm into statements regarding United States foreign policy is not the best idea either. Interestingly, one way to do that is to examine the funding by making use of inspectors general. Oh wait we got rid of them too.flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:56 pmI agree.
