WWTBAM Bored

Last night, about 3:00, a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring several dozen others. He later shot two policemen before being shot and killed himself. Police found several explosive devices and an ISIS flag in his truck. The Sugar Bowl scheduled for tonight has been postponed 24 hours for security reasons, although they did another sweep of the Superdome, which was only a few blocks from the scene of the attack. Other details I've gathered:

• The man was 42 years old, from Texas, rented the truck and stayed in a New Orleans air bnb before the attack.

• Police had tried to block off approaches to Bourbon Street by parking police cars sideways in the middle of the side streets. However, the suspect was easily able to drive on the sidewalk and around the parked police car.

• Police suspect that others were involved in the attack, which is the main reason they've postponed the game, to minimize the risk of follow-up attacks of any kind.

A horrible way to start the New Year.

We've been watching all morning. The car was rented from a car sharing thing. It had crossed the border but not said if anyone else involved. Accdg to online stuff owners' are devastated, etc.

Fbi and Houston pd at suspect's house now.

They found a huge number of pipe bombs.

The driver had a Palestinian flag in his truck.

They're checking to see if the Cybertruck fire at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is related.

Where are you getting that info. I'm been curious as all I've seen are reports of "several", which to me means more than 2 but not necessisarily "huge number". It is semantics, but do you know if it is more than 5, or 10? Have they given a number anywhere?

Breaking news is often broken. I can't find a number.

The flag was for ISIS, not the Palestinian State.

Now they are saying the driver was a lone actor. My question is, what about the IEDs? What about the videos they said they had showing three men an a woman planting one or more IEDs?

From what I've heard, they have video of Jabbar planting the two coolers they found with IEDs inside hours before his attack. He also had a detonator with him when he died. They have footage of other people near those coolers but no evidence that anyone else planted any other coolers or tampered with the two they found. It now appears that Jabbar was a lone wolf. He thought about killing his family first but decided that wouldn't get enough attention for his cause.

Two Princeton alumni who played together on the football team were among the victims. Martin “Tiger” Bech passed away and Ryan Quigley was wounded.

While I'm not sure about numbers you must not equate mass shooting with other murders. 20 something percent of mass shooters had mil background.
Then there are individual, less than 4, etc murders.

THANK GOD we are about to bring in an FBI that will monitor this stuff… wait we are cleaning it out because a bunch of criminals are tired of being investigated for being criminals.

If Kash Patel said that he wanted to make sure the agency was about stopping bad guys, awesome! I don't think there's much to take on this one. I was surprised, because I expected it to be another Trump-Musk protest. Not necessarily in the same way you apparently did, but I was shaking my head a little bit when I heard about it.

For those who haven't seen it, the suicider in this case was apparently a Trump-Musk-military FAN, who seemed to think blowing himself up in a Cybertruck at Trump Tower would somehow be a galvanizing event and convince all the other military and ex-military folks to rise up and take over Washington.

I am more than a little disgusted at the lack of easily available information about the two would-be Trump assassins. I'm consistently amazed at the short memories of news consumers, who seem content to just let the story be buried.
