Because of the recent crazy man etc.
I worked for Travelers back in the 70s. Claim adjuster.
I realize insurance cos are monoliths.
However, when I trained for 6 months I was ingrained to be fair and equitable. Just the facts maam.
We didn't automatically deny, etc.
Perhaps things have changed

Yes they have. Even if you delay some and get the interest on the money it can be profitable. United Healthcare denies 1/3 of all claims. More concerningly, they are very vertically integrated, and their Optum docs are told to treat and prescribe in certain ways. It’s single payer but with someone pocketing the difference

I did property casualty, not health insurance.

What does this mean.

It means that United healthcare has expanded to where they actually are the boss of more doctors in the country than anyone else. That is, they pay the salary of doctors. This entity is called Optum.
If you live in certain regions, they direct you to go to those doctors, who tell you what to do, presumably because United has told them to do that.
It’s basically like living in the UK or Canada, except that you’re paying more money for it, and the profits go to United Healthcare.

Don’t know about the UK, but here it is my doctor and I who decide what we want to do, and not the medical plan. Whatever tests (barring elective/cosmetic) services or treatments etc we decide I need, are just done. Doctor bills for whatever, and is paid. I don’t have to see any particular doctor, I choose my own.

Thanks for the clarification. In other words, what United is doing is even worse.

I guess it still doesn't justify murder.
Also, I would need more proof of United Healthcare being such a, again, monolithic beast. I agree insurance cos are bullshit at times.
However back in the day we had UH during my employment. Never got directed to "their" docs. Maybe because ours were already in network.
Regardless, murder?

I've pretty much been employeed by self-insured companies where the "insurance company" was simply the manager of the plan. So wheter they approved or denied didn't affect their bottom line, just my compaany's and perhaps our rates the next year.

It is well-known now that the shooter came from a very wealthy background. I saw something, but I haven't checked into it that his family was wealthier than than the Victim.
For sure the shooter had a much more privileged upbringing than the victim who was just a small-town Iowa kid.

His family apparently had nursing home(s) as well. Wonder how much they benefitted from insurance.

I knew you would be in here with this shitty take.
What if the CEO was poor, but from NYC? Does Iowa corn make his death any more meaningful?
Or what if he was BLACK? Let's not go there.
What if he was rich as a kid? Does the fact he worked hard - by fucking over countless thousands - means it is okay he fucked those folks over, because he's (theoretically, we don't even know this) some corn-boy from Iowa?
Does he stay some obviously naive corn boy for the first $50 million he makes? At what point is he upper class, too?
What if he lived, but because he lived, he had a privileged grandkid who went to Penn? Mangione's grandfather was an immigrant who made all that fortune by hard work. Maybe Mangione gets a pass then because of his grandfather's tough roots.
Does Mangione excelling in school mean he gets pass because he's apparently not just a bum?
OR: your take is stupid, and the demographics of the two involved parties shouldn't matter at all - now there is a concept.

Why the hell are y'all trying to justify his actions? By discussing them at all?

Well, my shitty take is a whole lot better than the direction you seem to be going is that the murder of insurance execs is justified.
Oh, and I never said he was an Iowa farm kid. I said he was a "small town Iowa Kid." I know you don't understand the difference but there are a lot of small town Iowa kids that don't grow up on farms. But, what do you care-you love making up posting history for me.

“Doctor” heal thyself - I didn’t justify the murder anywhere.
And my bad. No doubt there are many small towns in Iowa where there is zero agriculture - either way you seem to thinking being from Iowa gives him a pass. I do question your logic - is a Hitler from Braunau more praiseworthy than one from Linz?
