13 GOP congresscritters have already voted against Gym Jordan as Speaker, and we're only at the Ms in the roll call.

Tuesday: 20 GOP votes against Gym
Wednesday: 22 GOP votes against Gym
Today: 25 GOP votes against Gym

So much winning! Is anybody tired of winning yet?

EDIT: Gym is out, so the GOP is back to the drawing board.

Minnesota's Tom Emmer is the new GOP candidate for House speaker. He's a legitimate conservative without the baggage. He rejects Former Guy's "big lie", and he has been on record that he wants to continue funding for the Ukraine and he wants to avoid a government shutdown next month. That means he probably won't get any support on the floor from the terrorist wing of his party (in fact, Former Guy already spent the weekend bad-mouthing Emmer), so we may still be without a House speaker.

And now Emmer is out.

Sheesh, what a fustercluck.

Uh oh! This is what happens when you let people like flock have any kind of influence. Emmer’s problem apparently was that he did not think the election was stolen.

Nope. There’s never been evidence of that.

This is what happens when we give paranoid morons power.

Mike Johnson from Louisiana is next up to bat. l predict he'll last longer in the position than Emmer did because they've gone home for the night. But be ready for some more fireworks around noon tomorrow.

Yep. Back to the election-denying, institution-torching clowns.

Ken Buck will probably continue to vote for Emmer on the floor. Most of the New York GOP delegation who represents blue districts--apart from serial résumé-fluffer Anthony Devolder--will probably continue to write-in Lee Zeldin. (Knowledge bomb: 216 is fewer than 217.) One has to wonder when five or six Republicans will finally say "enough is enough" and just vote for Hakeem Jeffries so that the House can stop wasting time and taxpayer dollars... but there's probably a better chance that Beebs will win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Johnson actually got elected on the first try. This thread is finally closed.

The new Speaker of the House is an election-denying Republican who has voted to support complete abortion bans with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. And every single Republican in the caucus voted to support him.

Just another illustration of the capture of the entire Republican Party by its radical right wing. All because those who term themselves "moderates" are too craven to stand on principle. --Bob

Mike Johnson is Jim Jordan without his polarizing public image.

Probably worse than Jordan, since he’s a non-pervert while retaining the pro-Putin position, as well as thinking gay sex should be illegal, which would be an embarrassing view to hold even in Louisiana

Mike Johnson, the new Speaker of the House, third in line for the Presidency:
-is in favor of a nationwide ban on abortion (whatever happened to abortion is an issue left up to the states?)
-is an opponent of LGBTQ Rights and believes that Obergefell v. Hodges should be overturned
-Voted to overturn the 2020 Presidential election
-Wants to end aiding Ukraine
-Would restrict medical marijuana
- Voted against expanding VA benefits to veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals during their service
-Believes climate change is not caused by human activity
-Believes that the Earth is only about 5,000 years old

This is the man that Republicans felt could unite their party. Make of that what you will.

Thanks for sharing the far-left talking points. Do you take the truthfulness of those points for granted? If so, you personify the ignorance of the left. They tell you what to think, and you don't bother to question it.

Totes Legit (formerly known as Flock):

I'm glad you weren't upset too much by your loss earlier this week before the State Election Board.

Most of Johnson's positions are well documented and there have been numerous articles published since he became speaker documenting his positions with links to the original sources for the claims.

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/2 ... s-00123627

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... i-abortion

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4275 ... e-johnson/

So, let's ask this the other way around. Do you have any evidence that any of these claims about Johnson is incorrect? Or are you just mouthing your usual claims that liberals blindly follow the MSM, which has an agenda against Trump, Republicans, Johnson, and anyone else on the right?

I haven't had time to do this until this morning.

Mike Johnson, the new Speaker of the House, third in line for the Presidency:
-is in favor of a nationwide ban on abortion (whatever happened to abortion is an issue left up to the states?)
"In 2021, Johnson even co-sponsored a bill that would have nationally banned abortions past roughly six weeks of pregnancy."
The Guardian. October 26, 2023
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... roe-v-wade

-is an opponent of LGBTQ Rights and believes that Obergefell v. Hodges should be overturned
“The state and its citizens have a compelling interest in preserving the integrity of the marital union by making opposite-sex marriage the exclusive form of family relationship endorsed by the government. Loss of this status will de-emphasize the importance of traditional marriage to society, weaken it, and place our entire democratic system in jeopardy by eroding its foundation.”
Mike Johnson OpEd in the Shreveport Times, Sept. 12, 2004
https://apnews.com/article/congress-hou ... 24cc78e5c5

-Voted to overturn the 2020 Presidential election
"Johnson voted against certifying Biden’s win even after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol."
Associated Press, October 26, 2023
https://apnews.com/article/congress-hou ... 24cc78e5c5

-Wants to end aiding Ukraine
"Johnson has consistently opposed more funding to assist Ukraine"
Politico. October 25, 2023
To be fair, since my original post, he issued a strong statement against Putin's invasion.
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/2 ... s-00123627

-Would restrict medical marijuana
"Johnson has voted against every major piece of cannabis legislation — including the SAFE Banking Act, which would make it easier for weed companies to access financial services. That bill enjoys broad bipartisan support and is the top priority of the cannabis industry."
Politico. October 25, 2023
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/2 ... s-00123627

- Voted against expanding VA benefits to veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals during their service
"On veterans issues, last year he voted against the PACT Act, considered the biggest increase of veterans benefits in a generation that expanded benefits and health care for those exposed to toxic substances during their military service."
Military.com. Oct. 25, 2023
https://www.military.com/daily-news/202 ... sues.html

-Believes climate change is not caused by human activity
“The climate is changing, but the question is, is it being caused by natural cycles over the span of the Earth’s history? Or is it changing because we drive SUVs? I don’t believe in the latter. I don’t think that’s the primary driver.”
Mike Johnson at a 2017 Town Hall Meeting. Quoted in The Hill. Oct. 25, 2023
https://thehill.com/policy/energy-envir ... al-record/

-Believes that the Earth is only about 5,000 years old
" A committed “young Earth creationist,” Johnson believes in a literal reading of the Book of Genesis."
New York. Oct. 28, 2023
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/10 ... igion.html

And since the Lewiston shootings are still in the news, let's throw in this gem from the man's own mouth:
“People say, ‘How can a young person go into their schoolhouse and open fire on their classmates?’ Because we’ve taught a whole generation — a couple generations now — of Americans, that there’s no right or wrong, that it’s about survival of the fittest, and [that] you evolve from the primordial slime. Why is that life of any sacred value? Because there’s nobody sacred to whom it’s owed. None of this should surprise us.”

Well, krox, thank you for presenting why a leftist democrat would be against Mike Johnson. I am sure all these things are appalling to you. Just as the platform of Hakeem Jeffries would be appalling to me. And the policies and actions of the Biden administration are appalling to me.

So, what's new? You want the Republicans to elect someone who agrees with everything you want? Like the policies you support are the only right and good way to go? I am happy because we got a speaker who looks like he won't give the democrats everything they want. I count it as a good thing. Deal with it.

I would not expect Republicans to elect someone who agrees with everything I want anymore than you would expect Democrats to elect someone who agrees with everything you want. Hell, I wouldn't expect Democrats to elect someone who agrees with everything I want.

My original point was that the Republicans have put in power a right-wing fanatic who is (by his words, not mine) homophobic, anti-science, anti-choice, and anti-free elections. This is the now the face of the Republican party in Congress. The fanatics have taken over the party just as much as you believe that "Leftists" have taken over the Democrats. For evidence, you need look no further than Liz Cheney, whose bona fides as a conservative are impeccable and yet is now persona non gratis within the party because she refuses to be in thrall to a narcissistic megalomaniac who is driving this country away from its founding principles. We are witnessing the death spiral of the Constitution. I hope you can deal with that.

It is regrettable that on all those points you list that anyone who disagrees with your perspective is a right-wing fanatic or a narcissistic megalomaniac or whatever. The left is led by the nose to believe their views on any issue is the ONLY correct view. Anyone who has a different point of view is an extreme right-wing lunatic. So don't listen to what they say, just call them by any of the increasing number of epithetical names they come up with on a daily basis. And it is increasingly obvious you have bought into that pattern of behavior. No, Mr. Johnson is not a right-wing fanatic, he only has a different perspective and different ideas for solutions that you are told to have. Deal with that.

PS: If any group can legitimately labeled extreme, it is the democrat party leadership, who are deathly afraid of Donald Trump and have and are engaging in drastic, desperate and unprecedented actions with the power they have in order to try and keep it. Donald Trump is the most investigated, persecuted and now prosecuted person in the history of this country, and none of the hundreds of efforts they have made to cast him to the side has worked so far. And will. It is they who have poisoned the political discourse in this country. Your post above is an example.

And can you call me a monster?
