But you won't give any examples of what you think is right out of the Fascist playbook. I don't have one, maybe you do, but please enlighten us on his words. I'll then reply back with actual actions from the Dem side that are, I assume, in that same playbook.
"vermin"
"the enemy within"
"infested"
"bloodbath"
But if you're also acting like 19 year old me, and insisting that these don't fit the precise definition of fascism (which I think has probably been twisted so much that it means whatever a person wants it to mean, kind of like racism), I'm okay with that. We can call it authoritarian, or wannabe dictator, or whatever word fits your political dictionary. My contention is that he's a clear and present danger to the country, no matter what political philosophy you attach to it. Ultimately, I kind of agree with John Bolton (maybe the first time that's ever happened), who said Trump's "not capable of having a philosophy," adding, "You know, Adolf Hitler wrote a profoundly troubling book called Mein Kampf—“My Struggle.” Donald Trump couldn’t even read his way all the way through that book, let alone write something like it."
Or, how did you feel about "Deplorables" or "they are STUPID" (regarding 18-24 year olds in general) or "I'm friends with school shooters?
We get it. You hate Trump. Don't vote for him. The hysteria gets old.

So … we should elect Trump at least partly because that will end up restoring the media to their appropriate level of power?tlynn78 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:09 pmBorrowed with permission from a friend more eloquent than I: Why I voted for Trump/ Vance to lead the country. (I am not looking for a debate, just sharing my reasoning for my vote):
1. Loved ones fought in a war for this nation that was terribly mismanaged by leaders from both political parties. Over the course of my adult life, every single President, except one got America into another war, at great cost in lives and treasure. I believe the world is on the edge of being more destabilized than anytime since World War II and we need a President who has a track record of peace through strength.
2. The American Dream and our economic future are at a major inflection point. Inflation has routed the middle class of its stability and Generation Z is facing a world that will be unaffordable and unworkable. While I am not a huge fan of tariffs, I am a believer that the decades of poorly negotiated free trade agreements that didn’t protect the value of workers making an honest living has caused major damage to America’s citizens.
The fact that we can buy all the European Cars we want in America, but there are no American cars sold in Europe is exhibit A of a trade policy that is neither free nor fair. It is also clear that the Biden Adminstration maintaining the tariffs on China, even today, tells us all we need to know about whether they work or not, at least in a targeted manner.
3. Having experienced the media in a pandemic and how they covered up the clear decline of President Biden, I do not trust them to hold a President accountable that they are trying to protect. The fact that he is still the President today, when our world is so destabilized, and the sitting Vice-President still won’t acknowledge his decline means something is very broken in journalism.
They clearly will not protect President Trump. They will do their job of speaking truth to power and they will ensure their role as the 4th estate.
There is no perfect candidate for the Presidency and our choices certainly aren’t perfect this year, but they are our choices.
I will add that I don’t believe the Dems have EVER fielded a poorer candidate, and one more likely to cause terrific damage to this country.
Sorry. I’m just not really able to follow some of this.
And the rest of it? Well, everyone has an opinion.

I’m looking forward to seeing whether anyone accepts mrk’s challenge:
As to the whataboutism, I'm willing to play that game. But this time, you have to start (and as you'll see later, it will need to be a new thread). You list one action of Biden's, Pelosi's, Harris's, or anyone else you think is as harmful as Trump, and I'll list three of his that are as bad or worse. Actions, not words. If it will make you feel better, we can play that game. But that's for a new thread, and probably a new week.
Because these will be my last words for this thread.
I’m guessing not.

What war did Biden get our troops into? I don’t recall that one. He actually pulled troops out of Afghanistan and folks like this Mom - This seems like a Mom comment - got mad.
Trump definitely got our troops in combat against Isis, as generally acknowledged. I happen to know one of those soldiers also.
More broadly, I would acknowledge that the world is not in a great spot right now. There have been a lot of things leading to this. But I cannot imagine Trump making any of it better. His followers think that we will go to war with Iran, which seems crazy and the exact opposite of why he is supposedly such a great president according to this Mom. He has zero negotiating power with that country, since he threw that away already, so outside of supporting Israel by using for himself, what does he have by the way, what will that war due to gas prices and inflation? Oh, that’s right, just frack everywhere and give all the kids bone cancer.
He would also let Russia run through Ukraine, which seems like a bad idea for long-term stability, and has said that we would withdraw support from Taiwan. How is any of this peace as opposed to just cowardice, or letting his dictator friends get their way? By the way, none of this requires a commitment of American troops. Supporting Ukraine has not led to the death of a single American soldier, despite this war being years old at this point.
History tells us this stuff is badly when we let these folks get their way, so the world will be a more dangerous place with him around, as opposed to Kamala Harris.
I’m very open about her faults, not that any of you have bothered to ask my opinion of them. But his downsides are so huge that it’s obvious we can’t let him be in charge.

And at the time, I pointed out that comparison was ridiculous for all sorts of reasons. On the other hand, Trump actually says that he wishes he had Hitler’s generals, because he wants people who don’t question him, especially about the matter of paying for someone $60,000 funeral.Spock wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 8:17 amYawn-Ho Hum-Yawn.BackInTex wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 7:23 amBut you won't give any examples of what you think is right out of the Fascist playbook. It’s like he made the comparison himself! It’s almost as if he could use both INTELLIGENCE and WISDOM before making such a flippant comparison. What do you think, smarty book man? What would CHESTERTON say?

Your intuition is about on par with the rest of your reasoning. The original comment was "I served..." and I changed it because of course, "I" did not serve. The original commenter is a friend, Adam, and no, not a mom. Because, c'mon, man, everyone knows moms are mad? that Biden pulled the troops out of Afghanistan?? Sure would have been cool if he'd done it less chaotically, and without, you know, getting people killed unnecessarily. What war did Biden get our troops into? I don’t recall that one. He actually pulled troops out of Afghanistan and folks like this Mom - This seems like a Mom comment - got mad.

It is beyond obvious to anyone that is paying attention that Kamala Harris is not qualified and does not possess the intellectual capacity to be President of the United States. Other world leaders will not be placated by word salads. SSS said she had 'improved' since she became VP. I see no evidence of that. She has gotten worse and she has not lost her cackle. Many people on the bored do not pay attention.

Liar.... don't know much about statistics and polling... Nothing at all about biology... Ignorant Bigot... Potential Future Pariah... Big Nerd... Spiraling, Anti-Trans Bigot.. A Lunatic AND a Bigot.. Very Ignorant of the World in General... Sounds deranged... Fake Christian... Weird... has the mind of a child... I guess you didn’t get that I was making fun of his nonsensical number 3. I challenge you to explain what he is trying to say when he talks about something being “very broken in journalism” and then in the following paragraph suggests that electing Trump will solve that since they won’t “protect” him. I honestly have no idea what the hell he’s trying to say.
Needless to say, I wasn’t impressed. Since you were, I can’t help but think that you didn’t read it very closely, or were maybe distracted or something.
I didn’t say anything about a mom.

Didn’t say anything about “WE” being “bitter over Hilz” Honeybun. I didn’t even say that YOU were bitter over her. Just said that you hated her. You didn’t read that too good.
Your bitterness is just something I’ve observed about you based on your posts here. Nothing to do with Hilz.
Hope that “makes it make sense for you.”
