To be more precise, the State Board of Elections found (unanimously, if memory serves) that one of Harris's consultants had violated North Carolina's rules against ballot-harvesting. Again if memory serves, it was not established that Harris knew about this violation, but he nonetheless declined to run again when the election was invalidated. I'm pretty sure the consultant was eventually convicted for his crimes (I think he pled guilty). --Bobjarnon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 12:50 pmAlso in North Carolina, Rev. Mark Harris is a Republican candidate for Congress. He thought he had been elected in 2018, but his close victory was invalidated when some absentee ballots for him were found to be bogus. His tag line: “In 2020, Democrats stole the election from President Trump. The year before, they did it to me.”

Depending on the age of the class...the ensuing questions. Are you okay with furries, those who like bestiality, those who marry trees, those who dress as whatever? The crux is sexuality, whether simply dress wise or as a lifestyle. Don't know if you have young children.

Would you have a problem with men wearing kilts reading to young children? How about women wearing pants?Beebs52 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2024 5:55 pm"As someone who doesn’t care, one way or the other, the thought that a bunch of creeps like you would make sure that someone incompetent is in charge, just to ensure that there would be no drag queen, ever, reading to a kid, is bizarre"

What is the harm with men reading to children while wearing clothing and make-up traditionally associated (in modern-day America) with women? Is the fear that kids might accidentally learn tolerance?

Re: Super Tuesday Open Thread
Do you think kids ask women why they wear lipstick? If so, why would guys give a different answer. "Because I like the way it makes my lips look." Why are you wearing . . . ?" "Because I like the way they make me look."
I'm not being obtuse. If the kids ask those questions at all, there are perfectly anodyne answers available. Do you really think kids are going to appreciate the difference between a man wearing a kilt and a man wearing a skirt? Or care?
It used to be socially shocking when a woman wore slacks, and in fact at the start of my career I ran into experienced women lawyers who got hassled by judges early in their careers unless they wore dresses. We're no longer in that world and I consider it progress. It certainly hasn't hurt anyone, including the kids who are exposed to women who wear slacks. --Bob

Sorry, Beebs - that last is not possible.
I'm bothered by the thought that people like the ones on here showcasing their "tolerance" make decisions that impact the quality of education of our future leaders in all fields of endeavor.

So if the witch shows up for Halloween and wears a long prosthetic nose and a gray hair wig, or someone shows up as Santa Claus and wears a fake beard, what will they say when the kids ask them about their get up?
The same as the drag queen. It's part of my costume.

Bob is having trouble separating sexual display and performance from Halloween trick or treating. No wonder folks don’t let there kids go trick or treating by themselves anymore.
