Welcome to Lake XXXXXXXX, ahem, Lake America
It's good to know we have a President who is tackling the affordability crisis head on. In the midst of a growing trade war with Canada, Trump has unleashed his secret weapon, issuing an executive order to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America. I'm sure that's going to bring those troublesome Canadians to their knees, losing a treasured national monument. I'm only surprised he didn't rename the lake "Lake Trump" as he's tried to do with everything else in this country. Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker has responded by declaring that the Trump Tower in Chicago would hereby be renamed the Natalie Tower.
One unrelated but bizarre personal note. As some of you know, I do book reviews for NetGalley of newly released books. I'm finishing up the review and will post on my website later today, a book called The Haunting of Paynes Hollow by Kelley Armstrong. The titular Paynes Hollow is a fictional village on the shore of Lake Ontario in upstate New York where various bizarre supernatural happenings occur at the lakeshore during the book. (The name Paynes Hollow suggests Sleepy Hollow, and one of the book's premises is that the legend of the headless horseman actually originated in Paynes Hollow. The horseman puts in an appearance.) What's truly bizarre here is that the renaming controversy sprang up while I was writing my review, and I keep thinking about it every time I see the name Lake Ontario in the book.

SSS! It's your fault! Dang.
Plus, I am tired of Trump stupid shit when it's part of a dance with opponents, as opposed to actual reasonable negotiations.
We don't need the fucking theatrics.

If anyone is interested, here's the link to my review of Paynes Hollow. I really enjoy Kelley Armstrong's books, and this is a good story: https://silverscreenvideos.com/haunting ... es-hollow/silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2026 3:12 pmOne unrelated but bizarre personal note. Of course I think it is stupid, but I also thought renaming Mt. McKinley was stupid. And renaming all the forts...stupid. And renaming all the schools...stupid.
Now you can argue that all Obama did was return the name of Mt. McKinley to it's original indiginous name, but then shouldn't we rename that gulf back to what the Aztec called it (Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl) or the Mayans (Nahá). I'd choose Nahá over Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl for, well, selfish reasons. I don't want to have to learn to pronounce Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl or learn to spell it. Plus, it would be pretty hard to write songs about. Not that I write songs.

..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

For the record, changing a state name requires approval by Congress and the state government. There’s more work to be done here: only five counties are named after presidents (please leave the one that’s named after a game show).Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump wrote:

I know the New Mexico thing is supposed to be a joke, but it still does not make sense. What is the joke? That we don't like Mexico?

I think it’s meant to go along with changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.elwoodblues wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 12:30 pmI know the New Mexico thing is supposed to be a joke, but it still does not make sense. What is the joke? That we don't like Mexico?

Changing the name of a state requires an act of Congress. Whether this was a joke on Trump's part or another one of his delusions, he posted seven different variations of the "New America" map last night. I'm glad that he's got nothing better to do with his time than obsess about the name of a state. It's not as if we don't have a war in Iran, high gas prices, and Canadian tariffs set to kick in tomorrow that might occupy the time and efforts of most Presidents.jarnon wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 2:22 pmI think it’s meant to go along with changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.elwoodblues wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2026 12:30 pmI know the New Mexico thing is supposed to be a joke, but it still does not make sense.
