WASHINGTON, D.C. (KVOA) - The National Weather Service (NWS) is no longer offering translated warnings, a decision affecting over 60 million non-English speakers in the United States.
The pause in translation services follows the expiration of the NWS's contract with its translation provider, Lilt. Lilt had been providing translations by replacing manual translations from weather service employees with AI-generated translations.
The contract expiration coincides with President Donald Trump's efforts to reduce federal spending across various government agencies.
