It Was Nice to See the Protest at USAID Yesterday
Given the widespread reports (prior to the inauguration) of how few federal workers have been actually showing up for work for years-it was nice to see that they still remembered where their office was.

Well, for many of those workers, their office is out in the field. Places like Africa, distributing medicines or helping with clean water supply.
I’ve actually heard no one up to this point criticize USAID given how effective it was in the context of its relatively small budget. Of course “now” it is obvious it was terrible based on the talking points that you just spit back up.
It says it all that the first thing that Donald Trump went after was something whose whole goal was to make the world a better place. And it’s not surprising that you would find this all so cute - but this might make your next trip to Africa a little bumpier.

Given the high levels of waste and fraud and very questionable projects coming to light at USAID-that was a good target to hit hard right away.

I like how your citation was a guy just saying that in a tweet. If I quoted a tweet, quoting a tweet, would that one up it?Spock wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:39 amGiven the high levels of waste and fraud coming to light at USAID-that was a good target to hit hard right away.

OK, whatever-you are a smart boy. Some of the questionable grants have been widely reported in the last few days. i assumed that as you the smartest person here that you had dig into the facts yourself. I WILL NOT do your homework for you. Cernovich was just an amusing and (correct) take on the facts as reported over the last few days.Weyoun wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:41 amI like how your citation was a guy just saying that in a tweet. But I guess you can keep believing that 100% of the grants go to starving children with nothing being taken by the warlords.

But that’s the thing. If you think grants are being misuse, you don’t shut down the whole organization forever. Especially when there’s plenty of evidence that it does good work.Spock wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:52 amOK, whatever-you are a smart boy. Instead, you appoint an ombudsman to review everything.
Also, legally not as messy, since it’s not really clear if Trump has the authority to just shut down these organizations. In fact, he probably doesn’t.
Now, from the view at 30,000 feet, that would be the smart thing to do. After all, why give Trump the power to do something and risk a Democrat using the same power one day? Again, wisdom.

I commented last week when Trump said we spent $50 million on condoms for Hamas. When this ridiculous claim was shown to be false, he should have stopped repeating it. Instead he doubled down yesterday, raising the amount to $100 million.
I’ve listened to presidential pronouncements for decades. If this goes on I’ll stop. It’s a waste of my time.
He shouldn’t rely on Fox News and Twitter for news. That’s OK for conservatives on the Bored, or liberals who get their information from MSNBC and Indivisible. The president has a whole staff to provide him verified facts.
