At the Democratic Convention, Harris’s mother, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan (1938-2009) received numerous accolades, but her father was hardly mentioned. Even more surprising, Prof. Harris is still alive! Why wasn’t he in the audience with all the other near and distant relatives on one of the most momentous days in his daughter’s life?
Normally Trump would be all over this, with “Where’s Daddy?” featured in tweets and rally speeches, but no! He’s only approached the subject in roundabout ways, suggesting Harris didn’t identify as black until recently (she did) and Americans don’t know her last name (it’s Harris). These attacks have left people puzzled. My theories on why Trump is avoiding this issue:
- Trump is unaware Prof. Harris is alive, the same way he’s confused about the late great Hannibal Lecter.
- Trump is being kind to Harris’s dad because his name is Donald.
- Trump is losing his razor edge.

[tongue in cheek] Perhaps Trump respects Dr. Harris too much to bring him up as Dr. Harris continues to try to separate himselft as much as possible from his daughter.[/tongue in cheek]
