I was not the one who brought up fingers or A asses, honey bun.
Anyway, I gather my comment about farmers hypocritically being some of those most dependent on the government stands uncontested.

I read this before I logged in so I saw it. Actually, I largely agree with you. I vehemently detest big parts of the mindset of my profession which is one reason why I have joined some Democrat leaning agricultural groups. They haven't been wrong about everything.Weyoun wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 5:55 pmThat’s because many farmers hypocritically take government handouts while condemning those who get them by other means.Spock wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 10:22 pmGot to hear Walz boo'ed today at Farmfest-a regional farm show-equipment and whatnot in southwestern Minnesota. Candidate forums are also a feature.
He was slated to be there tomorrow-he attends every year-but that will likely change this year.
He is not popular with the Farmfest crowd.
(By the way, completely in favor of agricultural subsidies. But farmers aren’t known for situational awareness - see also their denial of global warming).
As far as the Farmfest crowd-Walz is detested by far more than farmers in outstate Mn. Even out here, farmers are a small percentage of the population-but the "Red/Blue" county map for the Walz 2022 re-election basically looks like it would for any other Democrat. And that was with a very poor Republican candidate.
He is detested out here, by more than farmers in ways that I have never seen for any other politician.
Not sure how much help he will be in flipping rust belt counties from Red to Blue in other states when he can't even do it in his own state.

This "Coach Walz" crap is going to get very annoying and I will have to ask my 21 YO about the specifics after this length of time, but the rough story is that he told his health department to fudge whatever numbers they could so he could cancel the Fall 2020 football season.
My then senior that year who lost his football season is going to be barfing and gagging at all the "Coach Walz" crap.

Oh, and don't give me the argument that he was just doing what he thought was best on Covid when he let thousands of people march, protest and riot just a couple of months after the outbreak of Covid-but he wouldn't let 22 guys be on a football field 6 months later.Spock wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2024 1:17 pmThis "Coach Walz" crap is going to get very annoying and I will have to ask my 21 YO about the specifics after this length of time, but the rough story is that he told his health department to fudge whatever numbers they could so he could cancel the Fall 2020 football season.

Sorry, thought I replied to this already. I've finally been able to catch up on the Minneapolis story, and it does sound like Walz could have moved a smidge faster. I'm sure he learned from it.Beebs52 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:58 pmSkoop

I've tried to ask a version of this before, but are there any Ds she could have chosen that would not have drawn a wave of criticism? Or is the problem that they are Ds? He seems very moderate to me, landing smack in the middle of voting records in Congress (not in the middle of Ds but in the middle of everyone).

Sorry skoop, but you are very underinformed. Walz, if nothing else, is a liar about his military service and rank. That is a big deal. Stolen Valor is a mortal sin, especially for a politician. But there is a lot 'else'. That is not even going into Harris, who has a multitude of other issues that are being covered up. And you have shown that you are not at all interested in learning any other perspective than the state's narrative.Ritterskoop wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 12:31 pmSorry, thought I replied to this already. I don't recall claiming to be unbiased. I actually wrote a graduate school concluding project 15 years ago, arguing that we are all biased, and we must account for that the best we can in our various jobs.
But if I somewhere did make that claim, I was wrong to do so.
I am trying to muddle through and to find positivity where I can. Whatever that bias is, I definitely have it.

As I understand it, you are or used to be a member of the media, or 'journalist'. I may be wrong on that. Isn't it a journalist's job to report objectively, ie: without bias, the subjects they report on? Which would include pertinent points from all sides of an issue? Not just the points they personally agree with. Otherwise, they would be considered an advocate.we must account for that the best we can in our various jobs.
Just asking....

I'm a wire editor, copy editor and page designer in sports. My moral choices are about how to feature underrepresented groups in sports, and when to use a straight-up-the-middle story and when to use one that comes more from a position of a specific team (I label those Commentary, so it's clear they are opinion rather than facts).flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2024 1:41 pmAs I understand it, you are or used to be a member of the media, or 'journalist'. My project was on how journalists do have biases, and they must struggle with them every day, but we cannot dismiss them. It's unrealistic to expect people not to have a slant, though the best do find ways to set them aside.
I met several people this week at my elections board (applying to work at an early voting site), and was blown away by how well they disguise their personal stances.
I wish more of us believed in the best of each other, rather than always tearing people down.

I agree. That's why I can differ with you and talk to you without going down the level of others on this bored. I think you are dead wrong about a lot of things, but I think it's because you don't get exposed to or discount other perspectives. That's why I offered to show you my perspective on a specific issue. But you didn't take me up on it.I wish more of us believed in the best of each other, rather than always tearing people down.

Perhaps that can explain why trump does mean tweets. He is returning what he gets.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Let's see Kamala, or Walz, or biden do an hour and a half press conferences taking questions from everyone there. And then do a two-hour unscripted conversation, even with one of their media conglomerate sycophants.
No. The puppet masters won't allow it. That would screw up the plans. They are counting on their election fraud and manipulation to win it. They will need to generate 100 million votes to win it. PA is already setting it up.
And biden actually spoke the truth, but then caught himself. If trump wins the democrat minions will burn down cities. Sad, but I think it's the truth. But it will be the democrat-controlled cities. Unfortunately, you reap what you sow.

Re: Harris picks Walz
Oh great. It is being reported that Harris wants to bring back price controls. I am glad that Kamala knows how much everything should cost better than the market system. Price controls have been a complete disaster every time they have been tried. But what the hell? I think Kamala knows how to do it better than anyone else in history. So has communism, but don't worry. These people, with all their experience, know how to do communism better than anyone else. We'll be alright this time.
