On this date 50 years ago, the Constitution was vindicated when Nixon resigned. Due to his abuse of power, he was certain to have been impeached and removed from office. Due to his misuse of the CIA (attempting to interfere with the investigation of the Watergate burglary), he would likely have been criminally convicted had it not been for President Ford's pardon.

My how times have changed. And not for the better. Nowadays Donny literally could incite an insurrection and still escape removal from office and disqualification thanks to the Cowards Caucus led by Mitch McConnell. And under the rules recently announced by the Supreme Court's Republican caucus, Nixon could not have been convicted for his blatant abuse of power. --Bob
