RIP Jimmy Carter...NOT

#1 Post by flockofseagulls104 » Tue Jul 23, 2024 9:36 am

At least that's what the NY Post said.... ????

Former President Jimmy Carter dead at 99
New York Post
Carter — the longest-living president in US history — was sworn in on January 20, 1977 after defeating Republican Gerald Ford.

No one else is reporting it as of now....

Probably a hoax. Look at the 4th paragraph.

Well, we now know where Flock gets his news:

Republican Senator Mike Lee Spreads Vulgar Jimmy Carter Death Hoax And Hours Later Slams ‘MSM Fake News’
Republican Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) shared a fake and very crude letter on Tuesday announcing the death of ex-President Jimmy Carter. Lee, after deleting his tweet, went on in a separate post hours later to blast the “fake news” mainstream media.

The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake noted this was the second misleading “news” shared by Lee in recent days. “Lee also recently circulated a baseless claim that Biden was having a medical emergency on Air Force One,” noted Blake of the senator. Lee later went on to post, “This is why Donald Trump’s term for the MSM-“fake news”-caught on. It’s not that everything they say is fake, it’s that any objectivity they try to portray is itself fake.”

Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote:As former President Jimmy Carter nears his 100th birthday, his milestone celebration isn’t on his mind.

Defeating Donald Trump is.

“I’m only trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris,” Carter told his son Chip this week, according to his grandson Jason Carter.

Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday is Oct. 1 and the possibility that he might reach the century mark is stunning, given that when he entered hospice care in February 2023 his physicians indicated he might have only days to live.

Jason Carter, a former Democratic gubernatorial nominee, said his grandfather has been “more alert and interested in politics and the war in Gaza” in recent days.

He said the exchange took place a few days ago when Chip asked the former president if he’s trying to make it to the century mark. He was clear he was more interested in electing Harris, the party’s presumptive nominee.

Even so, there will be plenty of celebrations as Carter approaches his 100th birthday. A concert will be held at the Fox Theatre on Sept. 17 to raise funds for the Carter Center, his Atlanta-based nonprofit established to promote human rights, advance democracy and eradicate diseases.

Other events related to Carter’s birthday have been scheduled in Atlanta and his southwest Georgia hometown of Plains, where he remains in hospice.

The former president wouldn’t have to wait long after his birthday to cast his ballot. Georgia’s three-week early voting period for the presidential election begins on Oct. 15.

Well, thanks for making this thread political. I stayed away from that.

I hold Jimmy Carter up as an exemplary human being. He is an extremely moral man and a role model as an honorable man.
That being said, he was one of the worst presidents we've ever had. Luckily, our country elected Ronald Reagan to fix all the things Carter screwed up during his administration.

Donald Trump is a flawed human being. I would not hold his life story up as a role model on how to behave as an honorable human being. (But interestingly, none of the sexual behavior that a lot of people hold against him have reared their head since he went into politics. Not one of the thousands of things he has been accused of are of that nature. If there was anything like that, we would have known about it in SPADES. Very interesting.)
However, his term as president was one of the most successful in history, until the virus from China, which, like a LOT of other things, we don't have many answers for. Many people who should have given us answers about the origin and spread of that virus are very silent about it. Just like they are about the 2020 election.

Most of our presidents have been flawed human beings. We just never got to know about it, because journalists in previous generations, decided to look the other way on reporting the personal flaws of the president. For the good of the country? I don't know.

That doesn't happen anymore. Depending on the narrative of the media outlet, they will now report anything, be it fact or rumor, that will support their narrative.

I think the required skill set to be a moral, honorable man and the skill set to be a successful leader of the country are mostly mutually exclusive. Maybe someday we can find someone who can have both skill sets. None of the choices we have right now have both.

From a historical standpoint, I think Lincoln comes closest to having both. There were flaws - restricting habeus corpus was a big mistake - and on personal matters he did have racist tendencies (although not nearly to the extent of most of the people around him and throughout the xcountry). Everything I've read on him - and I have red both positive and negative treatments of him - tell me he was a man of morals, ethics and decency, and at the the same time was a consummate politician who used every means he could to rescue our country. I can't think of many other people in our history who could have done it. The real tragedy is that he could not live to go from saving the country to restoring it. I don't know if his plans for Reconstruction would have worked, but Andrew Johnson undid much of what Lincoln planned and doomed this country to more than a century of blatant racist politics and decades more of more subtle policies.
You live and learn. Or at least you live. - Douglas Adams

The ignorance revealed in this post is mind-boggling. I’m almost tempted to demonstrate that. Considering that doing so would be pointless, though, I won’t bother.
