Wow. A Catholic speaking to Catholics offends folks not even there
A google search of this speech yeilds nothing but anger from folks who were not being spoken to (but perhaps about).
While I have plenty of beliefs different than many Catholics, what this man says, I mostly agree with. It's a shame the voices against him are being amplified more than the voices supporting him.

This is very embarrassing for me since Harrison Butker is probably the most famous Georgia Tech player currently in the NFL (and responsible for our most recent win over Georgia with a long last-second field goal).BackInTex wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 2:34 pmA google search of this speech yeilds nothing but anger from folks who were not being spoken to (but perhaps about).

Probably the Tateness of it.
I am sure most of the women graduates that were in the audience have more brain cells then that concussed loser.

Wow.
I doubt you listened to the speech in its entirety. Maybe you did, but had you mind already made up about what he said.
Did you notice he got a standing ovation, even from the women graduates?
You might as well insult those women, too, since they chose to go to that backwoods college and waste their parents money on getting educated only to stay barefoot and pregant the rest of their lives.
And SSS I'm sure would have been proud rather than embarassed had he doned a dress, some pearls, a little rouge, said he was a woman and complained about the lack of access for him to get an abortion, even though he can't get pregnant (such courage, though no credit for courage given for what was said).

All this. My favorite is when on-line pundits say, when it's pointed out he got the standing o, ".. well, those women must have majored in 'Stepford Wives' if they gave him an ovation." Yes, of course. They don't agree with your opinion, so their opinion is invalid.BackInTex wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 7:55 amWow.

My favorite is when they say Butker called Pride Month a deadly sin, without recognizing the allusion to the seven deadly sins.

My initial reaction to this was the same as BiT's. He's a private citizen, invited to speak at a Catholic school's commencement and expressing his opinions, which may or may not be in line with the school's positions.
Then I read that his submitted version of the speech was completely different than the one he gave. Then I saw the public statement by the college, disavowing his actions and positions and publicly stating their regret at inviting him.
He's a private citizen, acting privately. He has a right to say anything he wants. But to prevaricate and deceive in order to get your remarks more attention is not very much in keeping with his overall message, I think.
And the Chargers schedule release video was hilarious.

The best outcome would be for Taylor Swift to buy the Chiefs and then kick the kicker to the curb!

When he was at Tech, Butker's Twitter handle was Buttkicker87 (the number he wore at Tech). When he joined the Chiefs, he changed it to Buttkicker7.

He called out much of the hypocrisy of the Catholic leaders. He was not wrong. Throughout history there have been many men who took a stand for what they think is right and called out those who were wrong.mrkelley23 wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 9:26 amMy initial reaction to this was the same as BiT's. Re: Wow. A Catholic speaking to Catholics offends folks not even there
I’m not going to watch or read a transcript of his speech, but I’m guessing that if I were to do either I’d think he’s a jerk.
If I owned the team, I’d go ahead and bother to watch or read it.
If my guess about him is correct, and I owned the team, I’d cut him.
Would not want him in the locker room. He’s a good kicker, but I wouldn’t want the distraction.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Thirty-two owners refused to sign Colin Kaepernick for taking part in a silent, non-violent protest.BackInTex wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 4:26 pmGood thing most owners are smarter than you.wbtravis007 wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:00 pmI’m not going to watch or read a transcript of his speech, but I’m guessing that if I were to do either I’d think he’s a jerk.

Upon further review … I’d actually try to trade him first to an owner who would be more afraid of or wanting to cater to the necks more than I, seein’s how I’m fully aware that there are quite a few of y’all and what not.BackInTex wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 4:26 pmGood thing most owners are smarter than you.wbtravis007 wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:00 pmI’m not going to watch or read a transcript of his speech, but I’m guessing that if I were to do either I’d think he’s a jerk.

One difference is that Colin was doing his thing on the owners time, property, and while “on the clock”, disrespecting the owner’s image.kroxquo wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 7:47 pmI wouldn't be so sure about that.
