Crap Non-sequitor

#1 Post by christie1111 » Fri Oct 31, 2008 9:46 pm

SOMEONE knocked over a bottle of laundry detergent in the laundry area.

Of course, I am pretty sure I was the only one doing laundry tonight.

Good thing I know NOT to add water!

At least not as the first ingredient.

I put the throw rug onto the concrete floor to adsorb as much as possible and will deal with the rest tomorrow.

Heavy sigh.

I'm so sorry. It's so darned hard to get good help in a do-it-yourself world.

It will be easier to deal with tomorrow. Last week I did a load
of laundry, opened up the washer and pulled out an empty fabric softener container.
Of course, it wasn't empty when the wash started - in fact - it was probably almost
full.

Needless to say, those clothes were really soft.

I hate when that happens.

I spilled a bottle of bubble bath on the carpet once. I picked up as much as I could with towels, then started with the water.

It was painful.

Kay, ya gotta buy the Costco fabric softener bottles-they don't fit in the washer.

LOL - the hernia jugs - as LB calls them! I only buy the little bottles...it's the first time I've
washed one. What a waste of money!

FYI, in hopes you never need to know.

Clean up what you can with dry towels. Cover the area with a layer of salt, wait a bit and use a whisk broom/dust pan kind of thing, then start with the low amounts of water soaked towels.

The salt complexes with the surfactants (soap-like stuff) and makes it easier to clean up.

Hope you don't need to use this anytime soon.

On "How Clean Is your House" on BBC-America, the ladies suggest getting rid of soap by blotting repeatedly with a mixture of 2/3 water and 1/3 white vinegar.

Then stomp on a dry towel over the wet spot to pick up as much liquid as possible.

I am larger and heavier than I ought to be and middle age makes me stumble over obstacles I might have avoided before. Thus this year I twice have committed the offence of kicking a bottle of laundry stuff right in the middle of the cute kitten, and had the stuff go all over the floor. Luckily the flooring is apocrapo imitation plastic linoleum and it cleans immediately, no problem.

Cheap and ugly has its advantages, it seems.

The good side is that this week I cleaned up that area half-way to complete. The empty plastic jugs are recycled, the ones with a little bit of stuff in it used, the samples used, and the sticky gunk washed off all the other jugs, if anything had spilt. And lo and behold the remaining five jugs all fit OFF the floor on one small ledge/counter above the chute.

I don't want to hear about spilled laundry detergent, thank you......

Get some absorbing granules like we use. Of course, that may not be very convenient unless you have several spills a day.....

I am too anal to have any of this happen.

I can not (not do not, can not) put down a jug of anything without screwing the lid on tight.

It is a curse.
