Outraged about Ike refugees from Texas!

I just heard this on the news. Following the problems caused by Hurricane Ike, more than 100 refugees are on the way from south Texas to my area, where they will be relocated permanently.
The refugees are squirrels! I was under the impression that we already had more than enough squirrels around here.
I'm going to go climb in the bathtub for comfort in my time of emotional stress.

I would not be surprised. I even was nice to him today. He was sitting on the fence -- the short fence, not the tall one -- eating an acorn or something. Never mind his terrible manners as globs of chewed stuff fell out of his mouth! Anyway, I was only four feet away from him, but I didn't yell or bark or anything. I will not be so gracious if I go out tomorrow and 101 squirrels are sitting on the fence yammering and drooling. No, I will not.
I already feel sorry for the little kids down the street, whose apples, candy bars, shoes, and toys are being stolen on a regular basis. Unless Texas squirrels are much better behaved than "some" squirrels I know, those poor children won't have anything left.
Lizbit says the Cruella DeVil doll has been kidnapped again, too.

Manners is not a word in Evil Squirrel's vocabulary.

Here's an article, apparently clarifying what you heard. The squirrel residency in Oklahoma is only temporary, before they will be relocated somewhere in East Texas.
It makes no sense to me, and seems like a big waste of money. There is no shortage of squirrels in this country. Each local ecosystem already has the resources to support a given number of squirrels. If you throw more squirrels into the mix, that just means many of them will die off because of predation or a shortage of food. After the balance of nature takes its course, the number of squirrels will be about the same as before.

Thank you very much, Mr. Ed. I am glad to hear that they may be here only temporarily. Of course, I will believe that when I see them all on a bus heading south (or southeast.)
Also, I didn't know they were all babies. I can't get as mad at baby squirrels. I just hope their Uncle Evil won't be a teacher or role model for these young innocent fuzzies.

Say, Annie, could you round up about a gross of very small bicycles? The way to get squirrels to where they can jump over your whole yard is to get 'em started when they're young!

There's a much slower armada of armadillos and possums that will be requesting refuge as well. They're not known to steal apples or toys, but you might want to check your rake handles in your garage for babies and the undersides of your spas.
They didn't pay attention to the evacuation orders.

I've put Lizbit on Dillo Patrol. She can dig faster than I can, given my bum leg and all. We'll both stay on the lookout for those possums, but if we find any, I don't know what we'll do. They never want to play. We suggest a game and they go to sleep. It's the darndest thing!

I do not have any very small bicycles, and I will not round them up for you. You're less than a mile from the Mall, for goodness sake. Go over there and buy all you want from the Very Small Bicycle Store. I warn you, though. If Lizbit and I see very small bicycles with very small squirrels sailing over our heads, we might start to think of them as frisbees with on-board snacks.

You may be able to dodge one apple, but can you simultaneously avoid 101... coming from all different directions?
I warned you to be nice to me or I'd invite the whole clan over.....
