Today's Visit with the Dogs

We had a fun morning with the dogs.

There was another mom with her daughters and she helped walk the dogs into the kennels. Later while Maddie and I were walking Julie and Xamine (who have to be kept separate from the other dogs because they have eye infections) the mom and her daughters played with dogs in the cuddle room.

After we dropped off Xamine and Julie, Emma and I took Timmy out to the couch, followed by a really shy new dog, Curious George, who really couldn't get his head around cuddling, and then Zap.

We walked Zap again and conclusively determined that he goes crazy when he sees himself. I walked him in front of a reflective window, he started barking and tried to attack himself. I had him on a tight leash or else he might have gone through the window. He did the same thing on Wednesday, too. He was a really good boy today and when it came time to snuggle on the couch, he sat down and let himself relax with us.

Next, we brought out Art, Emma'a favorite dog. He immediately plopped himself out on the couch and stretched out for petting. Emma laid down next to him and he gave her a full body hug. At one point, he pushed Emma off the couch, because he wanted more room. It was very cute.

Everyone knows that Art is one of the kennel worker's favorite dog. One of the reason's why Art is so affectionate is because this man spends so much time with him. In the past, when he walked by, Art jumped up for his attention, but today Art continued gazing into Emma's eyes and drooling.

I asked again about Art being cat safe, and he definitely isn't.

The last dog was took out was Dumpling, one of our two choices for adoption. She is cute and she gives very nice standing up hugs, but even though we sat with her for a half hour, we never got the impression that she was interested in us. Unlike Zap, she never made eye contact with us, plus she wouldn't sit down and relax with us. She kept walking back and forth on the couch and wanted to see what everyone else was doing. We tried to tempt her into relaxing with dog treats, but after we were done giving them to her, she would get back up and try to get off the couch and leave us.

We haven't made our choice for a dog. Although we are both leaning towards Zap, I told Emma to keep an open mind because Dumpling might just need to get to know us better.
