My 8 year old son expressed an interest in going to the Hannah Montana concert when my local news said that they were releasing a few more unsold tickets. So I logged into the ticketmaster website at the precise minute and bought two tickets for a total of 70 dollars apiece. My son hasn't brought up the concert since then, and I'm seeing how much these tickets are selling for on Stubhub. So I'm tempted to sell them and recoup some of the money I spent on World Series tickets a couple of weeks ago.

My son has seen the Hannah Montana TV show a few times, but he doesn't have any of her CDs. And he just went to the World Series for crying out loud. So, what would you do?

I read they can go for 5 grand. But check your local laws...

Ask him if he really really wants to go. One of my sons just turned 9 two days ago, and you couldn't pay him to attend. My 9 year old niece would give limbs for the chance.

Last night it was The Wiggles for my two year old. The seats from Ticketmaster were...uninspiring, so my husband took a chance on new releases at the box office and got floor, 6th row, aisle, so Erin could dance.

If not, I would sell them.

If he does, then you will need to find out whether he really wants to go or not. Then, hold him to it.

I would see if any BBs were close to me, with maybe a couple of daughters who watch the show so much they have the dialog memorized, and see if he would want them, and just present him the tickets.

Or, on second thought, since that BB would have to buy another ticket to take his daughters, just see what you can get for 'em on StubHub. Unless you want to take them.

With my girls, I would ask them if they really wanted to go and offer to buy them something they wanted with the profits from selling the tickets.
I wouldn't give them all of the proceeds, perhaps the cost of their ticket plus a few bucks more. (If the tickets were $35 and you made enough, maybe offer $50.)

I would also have them help me list the tickets and watch the auction with me as sort of an object lesson in the concept of supply and demand.

My son is at that stage where he doesn't like girls. In fact, I could probably tell him that the crowd would be almost entirely girls, and he probably wouldn't want to go.

And actually, when I bought the tickets, we had intended on my wife taking him since I had just taken him to Denver for the World Series. But the tickets will have to be picked up at Will Call by me (credit card and ID required), so I will be at the arena one way or another...

"Hannah Montana" is 22-year-old BD's guilty pleasure. I've never sat down to watch it, but she claims it's actually funny, a rarity among the so-called sitcoms. I don't think she plans to attend any concerts, though.

I've seen an episode or two and it has its moments, but there's a reason why it's on the Disney Channel and not on ABC. The problem is the premise - you have to believe that no one in the world is smart enough to realize that little Miley Cyrus is really Hannah Montana. It's the whole "Superman/Clark Kent" thing. Not to mention that her dad wears a cheesy goatee when portraying Hannah's agent/manager, and her best friend wears a wig to be Hannah's best friend backstage.

I have now completed my first sale as a ticket broker. Not really, but I did make a 300 dollar profit off those two Hannah Montana tickets with very minimal effort. And I wound up selling them to a professional ticket broker who turned around and sold them for who knows how much. The concert was here in Fort Worth last night. I had to go to the arena will call window to pick up the tickets and meet my seller (he bought them off EBay). It was crazy. Downtown Fort Worth seemed to have been invaded by pre-teen girls and their mothers...

On the 10:00 News, after a very touching story about a mentally disabled teen whose home town bought tickets, souveneers and a limo ride to the concert, it was also reported that at least 3 private jets were waiting at the Ft. Worth airport to take concert goers home.

She claims that the fan club knew or should have known that ticket brokers would buy up the seats and resell them for enormous amounts. She's trying to get others to join her lawsuit.

I'll probably be part of this lawsuit. I contacted the fan club complaining about the same thing, it took them about a month to get back in touch with me (and only after a second email). I only want my $30 membership fee back, but they didn't even mention that in their reply. Tickets in my area (Long Island) were gone in about one minute for both the fanclub presale and the regular on-sale date. Fortunately it was going to be a Christmas gift for my daughter, so I never mentioned it to her, but I'm sure that one or two of her friends will probably be going, so somewhere along the line there will probably be tears.

I say the whole ticket broker thing must be eliminated even though I profited from that about 15 years ago. Also the American Express cardholders being able to buy tickets earlier - and probably feeding the brokers.

We've found just going to the box office on the day of the show gets you better seats and avoids the Ticketmaster markups and the broker's profits. But you take the chance they don't release the unused promotional seats. C'est la guerre...

I joined the class action lawsuit against the Miley Cyrus fan club today...the one started by the woman in New Jersey who believes (as I do) that they basically conned thousands of us into joining the Club for $29.95 with the promise of access to tickets when they had every reason to expect that demand would greatly exceed availability.

I do believe there was deception there. They have been trumpeting this figure that 70,000 fan club members got tickets and there was a disclaimer on the website. But...70,000 tickets divided by the number of venues is less than 2,000 tickets per venue...they had to know there would be many more people wanting tickets since they booked the tour into 15,000 + seat arenas.

And...the disclaimer was IMHO deliberately worded to create a false impression...it said "We cannot guarantee EVERYONE a ticket." Now, if they had said "Only a small percentage of tickets per venue will be made available" or even "Most fan club members may not be able to get tickets" then -- no gripe. But their wording created a deliberate misimpression that while not EVERYONE will get a ticket, most should be able to.

You know, how much money does this kid need? Did they have to bilk parents desperate to take their kids to this show for an extra $30 when we've been buying the cd's, the dolls, and all the rest?
