Does the town of Milford, CT live up to its name?

The Encyclopedia Britannica thinks it was named for Milford Haven, Wales or Milford, England. The Milford Haven, Wales seems to be more likely as many of the first settlers in this part of what is now Connecticut were Welsh.Sir_Galahad wrote:Does the town of Milford, CT live up to its name?
I guess you could consider the location of Milford as a ford. The river does narrow there between its mouth on Long Island sound and "Upper Lagoon". It appears to have been named Milford before any actual mills were built there, though.

I used to live in that neck of the woods. Basically, New Haven (and its assorted compass havens) prevent Milford and Guilford from abutting each other. I will leave it as an exercise to the deranged readers to make up their own particularly filthy acronyms.

I live in Stratford, the next own over is Milford. Husband1111 works there.
I knew what a MILF is and I still didn't get it.
So maybe Sir G's answer is no.
But then the mother thing might throw me off a bit. I can't think of many FILF over there either, but that would be a different town.
