No, I announced an email to a MM before when I didn't know how the bored worked regarding why some messages would stay in the outbox and others were being moved to the sent box - I was informed that if a message was still in the outbox it means the reciepent hadn't read it yet. I was also introduced to the MM concept and was told that if I ever respond to a MM then it probably would be a good idea to post that they have a PM - since they may not log in with that ID often - so I've done that since then.
